cadillac 500 swap
Aright, so I bought a Cadillac 500 to take the place of my 454. Anybody know what to do to get this thing to fit? I converter to hydro boost brakes so my booster doesn't hit my valve cover. My problem is after I drilled new holes an inch forward in my trans cross member, the head on the driver side still sits about 1 millimeter from my firewall. Plus I'm stumped on my engine mounts. I've read that you have to make extension plates, or I've read that you have to move the original mounting plates further forward on your frame. Anyone that has done this and has pictures or knows about this stuff please help!!!

Re: cadillac 500 swap
Welcome to the Caddy club!
If you are using stock Caddy valve covers you should be able to keep the stock brake system and leave the trans in the stock location. To clear the firewall just cut a couple of slots in the firewall seam and bend it down where it hits the head. If you move the engine too far forward you may have interference issues with the oil filter and the forward crossmember (near the steering box). Tilt of the engine makes a big difference in firewall clearance too. As for mount location, there are a couple of options detailed here http://www.cadillacpower.com/forum/v...15256&start=20 Scroll down to the bottom of the page. |

Those brackets are not needed. Its been done a bunch of times without them. Those brackets are good for a g-body transplant though.
