ORD Steering Box brace 2wd Help
 

Does anyone have a picture of how this goes on?

Note it's the 2wd version.

From the instructions I don't see how it goes.

Any clues here on how to do this?

The instructions are really bad. I had high hopes for ORD.
Also, this unit is bare metal not painted. Does that seem a bit weird?

I emailed them but If anyone has done this please ping me!

Looks like its going from the back of a crossmember to the inside frame rail where the box bolts come through.

Can you locate the proportioning valve on your truck and see where this thing mounts in relation to the pic.

The Proportioning value (for the brake right?) is on the *back of the front cross member. Meaning towards the rear of the vehicle.

I took it in to the welder today, and he's going to sort it out.
His thought was it sits on the FRONT of the cross member (as it's different than the one pictured by ORD).
I'm confident he'll figure it out. I'll post some pics when he's done.

My truck is a 4x4 so it looks a little different than yours. To me it looks like the wider part of the bracket is on the back side of the crossmember and the other end is triangulating to the frame on the backside of the steering box on the frame. If that makes sense. Anyway your welder should get it all set up for you. I had no idea they made this bracket for the 2wd trucks.

Did you get it figured out? I just bought and installed a 4x4 version and it was powdercoated. Seems strange that yours is bare. What did ORD say?

Yep got it figured out, or I should say my welder did.

Heres what I posted:
So the Front end is remarkably better. Here's what the Kim Williams in Alameda CA did. Nice guy too.

* Welded the Frame at the brake line "pass though" hole. The frame was really spidered there, and the lower part was cracked in half.
* Welded the front cross member to the frame on the gearbox side (this was a repair of a *previous repair job)
* Removed the Sway bar brackets (these are riveted from the factory and one was also welded in place. I let the guy with the torches do this job).
* Installed the ORD Gear Box Brace

Here are some pics.

The Off Road Designs Steering Gear Box Brace. It seems to work great, but
I'm disappointed in the instructions and in the fact that my email to them went unanswered as to how to install it.
Let me give you an example of what I mean: The instructions (which are for the 4x4 model) say to install it on the back (toward rear of vehicle) side of the frame cross member.
You can see here that the 2wd one goes IN FRONT of the cross member and is visible right behind the front bumper:

to be fair there's only 4 ways it can possibly go on.. hold it up and it should be somewhat obvious as to which way it goes.

Yep pretty much true. The way the bolts are lined up there's only ONE way it goes. I just like instructions!
