Seat Belt Retractor Bolt

I was pumped as I just received my new seat belt retractor cover. I went out to the truck and thought I'll just unbolt the old retractor and change the cover and bolt it back in. I cant get at the bolt cause it is at the back on the retractor and the gas tank is in the way from the front or above. Any one have an idea about this, what tool to use?

Hi Greg,

I think the whole assembly goes through the floor, and there's a nut under the truck. Undo the nut, pull the entire assembly out, and you can then easily work on it. I removed both of mine when I restored them, and that's what I did

Wait a minute. This should be even easier than I thought. Just pull up and wiggle the old plastic retractor, and it'll pop off and then you can feed the belt through the new one and POP it on. You'll need to use a little force to wiggle the old one off, but it'll come. If you can warm it with a hair dryer or heat gun first, it'll be easier

I recall having trouble accessing that bolt too because of the gas tank.

I believe I used a short socket, universal, extension, then ratchet/breaker bar.
