My 64 C20 farm truck

Hello everyone , this is my 64 that has had a very hard life on the farm ever since it was purchased new by my family. It still gets used every day and I love the look on peoples faces when I drive it into town and they always say the same thing " I can't believe that thing even runs " I was going to restore it a few years back , but I have gotten more enjoyment the way it is and I don't have to worry about it getting scratched up or dented lol.

Great looking truck. Glad its still on the road and it lends more credit to the engineers who designed these trucks.

We're here to give advice brother, got a '64 C20 myself (stepside) that's soon gonna be workin the farm. She looks good too, and dig the idea for keeping the patina and the nostalgic look to it.

Thanks everyone and if I ever have any questions I will be sure to ask . One good thing is that I have been working on this truck since it was new so I pretty much have rebuilt/ rigged everything I can think of on it lol

Now that truck has some character, worn and well used that's what these trucks were made for I know my dad hauled many loads of wood on his 65 longbed 283 3spd,I swear he could take that truck with some weight on it and go places where a 4x4 wouldn't go...

Now that, THAT is a workin truck! Nice man, you can tell it's no trailer queen! I say (at least on mine) that all the dents, dings, scratches and rust are character, and mine has A Lot of character!
Keep us posted on whatever you do.

Nice truck! They only look that way once. I bet the headache rack/tie down rails are real handy for hauling stuff, too.

We all need more pictures, lol.

I like it! Get it mechanically sound, put some tires on it, and don't change anything else.

To me, the good-running, beat-up trucks are like an ugly old family mutt that's the best buddy you'll ever have and 100% loyal to it's owner.

Re: My 64 C20 farm truck

One question I have seen asked a lot is why people cut the air cleaner nose down and I will tell you why I did . We have a problem with two kind of pest that I despise one is rats and the other is dirt dobbers , they would always build nest in the end of the nose of the cleaner and stop it up and cause the engine to choke out lol. A hack saw fixed that problem and also allowed the engine to breath better . We tried a wire screen on the end and that made it worse as the dirt dobbers love the wire to build their nest on better lol.

Seems like nothing runs better than a beat up ol chevy! I like the oil bath type myself, and have a paper element air cleaner that doesn't have a snorkal, it's the BEE HIVE style:lol: So it would be perfect!!!!!:lol::lol:

That's the thing about a Chevrolet, no mater how they look, whether it be a trailer queen or a good ol' used farm truck like this, they will always look damn good wearing that Bowtie.

Hey Fleetweld47, is that a factory headache rack or did you and your dad make that for the truck?

fleetweld47 09-27-2013 04:21 PM

Re: My 64 C20 farm truck

Dillon , I made the rack years ago its made out of 1'' 1/2 square tubing and it has been a life saver over the years .

Re: My 64 C20 farm truck

Hey, it adds to the nostalga on that ol' girl. Old farmer up the road from my folks in Michigan has a 66 c30 flatbed that he built a special bed side to haul hogs back in the day, still has all the old racks and stake side, jus rarely uses them cause he only needs the flatbed open. his boys sent it off to a local mechanic to get some work done on it before they tear into it now that he and his oldest son passed in the past couple years.
