Almost Done With The Engine
 

Well after 6 months, I am almost done building my engine. Now due to funds I am at a stand still again. ugh :banghead:

Only things left are:
Mount Harmonic Damper
Bead blast / Paint (ugly rusty) All pulleys
New or pressure wash/paint with bed liner old oil pan
Bead blast and clear coat intake
Rebuild/Adjust Carb Due to back firing at WOT (back fires until engine catches up) (Im guessing to much fuel on secondary's)

After all this then I can mount it in the frame rails and break it in with some ZDDP.

Don't use anything except paint on the oil pan. You don't want to keep the heat in. You want it to dissapate.
Don't forget to set your oil pick up correctly with the oil pan. Put the pan on without gaskets and set the pick up at 1/4 inch clearance. Mark the pick up tube location on the pump, remove pump and tack weld the tube to the pump. Factory didn't do it but it's good insurance.

Really? I heard that the spray can bed liner works pretty good. But I will take your word for it. As for the oil pump, yeah screen is mounted but loose so I can adjust it when the pan is done. Here is stupid question but I need to ask it, would JB weld work instead of welding? Just make sure that there is no loose JB weld slag that could come loose go within the engine.

Tack weld is best. JB will delaminate and get in the pickup screen.
On the pan, I'm old school. Maybe the bed liner is the bling bling thing to do today.
What are you running for a carb?

As for the paint, I wouldn't be surprised if the liner kept the heat in. Might do some more research on this.

I just did some research. Some say the liner doesn't stick well due to the heat changes. Some say they use it but have an external oil cooler too. You need a way to cool the oil so paint should work.

Backfiring at wot is usually timing related. Not enough timing that is.
What's the cam specs?

Cool, greatly appreciate your help on the subject. Just tells me that I will be painting the pan. And thank you for the links, I will be reading alot before the first bolt/screw gets removed.

When you rebuild the quad pay particular attention to how to hook the needle clip on the float arm as shown in the crankshaft coalition link.
And I'd still like to know the cam specs?

I know I might have some issues at some point due to so much lift on the exhaust but due to budget I had to go with what I had on the shelf. However anything is better than what it had originally. OEM Cam. yuck.

Good choice though!
Slight lope. Good torque. Better than stock. If you want more lift on the intake you could use 1.6 rockers.
You'll need to run 14-16 degrees initial timing, another 18 in the dizzy with 10 from vac advance.

Thanks much sir. I thought about 1.6's however I didn't want to take unnecessary risks right now. Maybe after I get new heads (down the road).
