Question for Keith Seymore or Anybody that knows.

Still looking for an answer on what finish the leaf springs came from
the factory. Where they painted from the factory or just had the
natural finish? Where they different from plant to plant? Most of the
other discussion boards for other Chevy products indicate they where
natural finish. (Dull gray; almost black) Anybody have a picture of
one? Thanks in advance--Larry:chevy:

It could vary from plant to plant ....and from year to year....but the originals I have were not painted or coated.
Usually they will be lightly rust colored ...even on dry climate or garaged trucks.

My 73,76, and 83 C20s - none were painted. I did recently paint my current 83 springs after sanding off the surface rust - just for appearance.

I seem to recall they were a light grey (perhaps raw spring steel or maybe painted with a light primer).

They may have also received a little overspray while shooting the rear diff and brake drums with chassis black immediately prior to body drop.

Thanks to all you guys for some input. Plan on powder painting them to
as close as I can get to the proper color. BTW; the bushings for these late
70 Chevy 1/2 ton (2WD) is GM part number 468481 which is dicontinued now but your Chevy dealer can run a search and find some NOS ones at various Chevy dealers which is what I did. Found them pretty easy.FYI Larry:chevy:

Best bet may be some epoxy primer, or some semi-gloss chassis paint.

The springs that I bought a couple of years ago (that the spring shop said were on the shelf for about twenty years) were natural finish with a clearcoat on them.

Rich84: How would you discribe the color of them? I have seen some
that are light gray and some dark gray (almost black). Thanks-Larry:chevy:

Rich84: Thanks for the response. I think I'm going with the dark dark
gray like you and others have indicated. Will check with my Powder Painter to see how close
he can get. Thinking a color very similar to some exhaust manifolds we
see. Larry:chevy:
