Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

Worked the C-20 pretty hard yesterday, only use it once a year to bring in firewood. Will be pulling the battery today and getting it ready for its long winter nap.

I figured out how to flip your photo. I turned my computer upside down.

Yes, my truck is my workhorse. She does everything from heavy cross-country hauls with a cargo trailer to dump runs. Been doing so for all 41 years now. The old farmer I bought it from worked it hard since new and I bought it to use as a winter beater. She never died so I kept her, almost 18 years now.

My truck saw heavy action as a "truck" and that's how I plan to use her once she is running again.

Mine has always been a work truck. It's hauled firewood, construction material, trash, gravel, sod, camper...... more stuff than I can remember.

I use mine like a work truck by dropping off the recycling every week with it. It is one of my highlights of the week because it is so much fun!http://images.craigslist.org/00m0m_4...3n_600x450.jpghttp://images.craigslist.org/01515_ky1f37x5FGb_600x450.jpghttp://images.craigslist.org/00L0L_a...uj_600x450.jpg

I like your truck. You don't post many pics, but you should

Used mine this weekend to take a load of stuff to the storage unit, including two sweet tailgates I picked up. On the way there, I looked back and said out loud "god I'm glad I got a long bed"

This is what I bought the truck for.http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps15e72929.jpg

Unfortunately, after dragging the 4Runner 100 miles to the park, it didn't want to get off the trailer so I wound up offroading the 71 that weekend. I got some ugly looks for having such a nice truck on trail, but dammit I had my family with me and we were going offroad. I just stayed on the wider trails and did my best not to scratch it up. All in all though it basically drug an extra 7-8k lbs 250 miles for no reason and ran trails for a weekend plus was the camp radio and still had to jumpstart a stuper duty in the morning.

This may not be the most practical truck as far as fuel economy goes, but its my truck so its gotta do scrap runs, and of course move at least a friend a week and all my general hauling needs.

Re: Do You Use It Like a Truck ?

Heck yes I use my truck as intended...it's a 72 Suburban C20, 307, 3 on the tree, 4.10 gears and a Q-jet swap.

so far the workload has been:

hauling trash & recycling to the dump many times
carrying my 72 CB350 on a hitch carrier several times
pulling an S10 on a car dolly for a friend

i have quite a bit of work left to do and parts to install, but eventually this truck will be pulling the family 71 Holiday Trav'ler 21ft that weighs 6,000 pounds loaded. the same trailer was hauled by my dad's 72 Burb C10 back in the 80's.

as for putting it away for the winter....that won't happen. i keep it out of the weather and away from the roads when the snow flies. but when i get a day when the roads are relatively dry-clear, i take it for a spin. a good drive once or twice a month keeps everything freed up and the battery charged so there is no "getting it out of hibernation" in the spring. just hop in, hit the starter and go like any other day.

Special-K, those pump jacks hanging off the back in that first pic brings back memories of my younger days. Nowadays everybody has to have a "telehandler" or they "can't get up there". I don't know how they think us old guys did it.

Last week I used my 71 Longhorn to haul my friends 5.9 Cummins diesel from the machine shop. We had the whole engine in the bed in pieces. The truck sure rode nice with all the weight.

The Cheyenne get used like a truck- it hauls motorcycles, bulky/heavy car parts and tools, furniture- it's kinda ugly (patina'd, actually) but its got low miles, runs great, its thirsty, but, damn- it's a great truck.

Yep,I still use them, just not often. Now they sit on a rack I built. Before the economy tanked they were either on the job or on the truck being hauled to the job,but never home.
