$150.00 to rent a welder
 

Well....back to the broken bolt fix. I don't have 220 volts in my garage. A friend is a custom welder and will be up my way next month. He says he'll do it, even use his rods, if I get a welder.

I just checked with a rental place and they have a Bobcat with its own generator and will rent it to me all weekend for $150.00. So...that's the plan to fix this:

Where is that bolt at? There has to be a cheaper/easier way. Why can't you just drill it out?

Yeah, a decent electric drill and about 4 good bits...20 minutes and she's out!

Looks like one of the center seatbelt bolts on DS? Looks like it's plenty big enough to drill it out and use and easy out bit???

You can buy a 110 volt welder at Harbor Freight for about $100. they work good. I have a plasma cutter from harbor Freight and it works great.

You say rods meaning stick welder I assume. A stick welder isn't going to work at least not very easily The rod itself will be too thick to do what you need to do. I would not spend 150 bucks to get out one broken bolt. Another 2-300 bucks gets you a pretty decent 110v mig welder. You will find plenty of other uses for it especially with an old truck. Whatever you get make sure it uses gas and not just a basic flux core welder. Flux wire for sheetmetal or body work sucks.

It's one of the bolts that hold in the cab gas tank. Head came off when I was removing the tank.

I tried an easy out but I botched the job! Oh well, it was my first time. :waah:

I'm taking a welding class next semester and I think I'll just hold off on that bolt. It isn't essential and I can just remove the seat and gas tank and get it out later. My dad is a master welder but he's too elderly for that sort of thing now. A good friend is a welder also but I don't have 220 volts in my garage.

So I may just wait till next summer.

Oh yes, my dad agrees that I can just drill it out, after I smash what's left of the extractor I broke off! LOL

a wader is not the way to fix that/// just a real good way to screw things up even more

get somebody who has a drill and buy reverse twist drill bits drill out and at worst you just need to slightly tap the hole slightly over sized // a not cruitical thing like the really is not needed all that much anyway so size doesnt really matter all that much

for 2 times that rental you could buy a lincoln wire welder from home depot

I'm talking wire fed welder at Harbor Freight for about $100.00. all you have to do is add pressure regulator for the argon gas. my brother bought one and it works for thinner materials.

Drill the center out with a smaller drill bit and get an e-z out bit we break bolts all the time at work and use e-z outs without them we'd have hundreds of more hours into everything

Look and read. He did drill the bolt. He did use an easy out. He broke it off. You can see the stub in the picture. However, a stick welder is not the right tool.

Try hitting the easy out stub with a center punch. That may be what you implied. Once the stub is broken, drill bigger. Do you have a propane torch? I like Mapp gas myself. Heat that bad boy up! If you must weld a std onto the bolt, use a MIG or better, a TIG. Good luck.

Saying you need to rent a bobcat generator/welder to take a bolt out is a lot like saying you need to rent a backhoe to plant your garden. Way overkill for what you need. If you want to weld a nut on it, rent a 110 volt welder. They will do everything you need them to do. I have a 100 volt Hobart Handler 140 and I have used it to get broken bolts out.

quick fix if you have a electric dryer that run 220 volts you might need a adapter to plug in but im saying you dont cause 220 plugs are just like 110 they a basic standard design even though they are different
