Indy Hauler on Ebay...

Here is a link to what is supposed to be an Indy Hauler on Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=5348

I don't think it is real. If you look at this ad (from May 1980 Popular Mechanics) the truck on Ebay doesn't match in the exterior lettering style. My Indy Hauler also has a dove grey interior just like the 1980 Indy Pace car replica Trans Ams and that truck doesn't.

The truck on Ebay could be an original that was repainted poorly and had the interior redone in a different color, but I'd bet it's a fake. I asked to get a picture of his options decal, I'll know then...ad

Joe, thanks for sharing. I am not too sure I agree with your point of view. It seems like an aweful lot of work and $$ to spend on a truck that realy isn't worth all that much. Don't get me wrong, but to the average collector these trucks aren't really in demand...but to a 73-87 enthusiast that is a whole different story. lets see if he comes thru with the info you requested...I am just as curious as you are now. :)

Looks real to these untrained eyes. Of course I'm blind now after seeing that one picture of the shirtless guy and his beer gut! :)

Why would they put a 305 in a special edition truck? That just doesn't make sense to me. A 454 or at least a 350.

I agree that they aren't worth much yet, but based on the ad above, my truck, and this truck too, I don't think the truck on Ebay is real. There are too many things that aren't right. He is starting at 6000 for a 1980 SWB with a 305 and 350, sounds like he is trying to make more than the truck is worth by dressing it up and calling it an Indy Hauler.

Yeah, I see what you're saying about the differences. The bird on the hood is different and the lettering font is different. Is it possible they made different versions of this truck since they're so custom?

Auction ended...no bids.

Joe, did he ever reply to your e-mail?

Yes he did. He never provided a picture of his options sticker, but he did give me a couple of pics of some pretty convincing sheets from the GM of Canada historical group. They are here and here.

There are many things I still don't understand about the truck. One, all of the others I have seen and heard about through my web site have gray interiors. Also, this truck has one option listing body side molding and one deleting it, seems odd it would have both. It also has options for chrome front and rear bumpers when it would have come with painted bumpers with rub strips front and rear. Also, mine and the one in the ad on my page have the small mirrors, this truck has the below eyeline mirrors. I'm also surprised they put a 3.91 ratio rear end in a truck with a 305 and TH350C.

This may just have been a truck that was special ordered so it has many different options than the "regular" Indy Haulers I've seen previously.

I'd say I'm wrong about it being a fake, I certainly learned something. There is still no question in my mind that he did a crappy paint and decal job and it doesn't look like it did originally.
