b pillar question

Removed the drivers side rocker on my 72 k5 and found the b pillar crusty. Question being does the b pillar bolt in and attach just to the rocker reinforcement panel or is it welded somwhere too? Ive removed the end cap to see better but havent removed anything else yet.

Re: b pillar question

From the looks of it it is welded both to the rocker and inner rocker. And then to the inner and outer bedsides and floor. I just patched mine where it was bad with new sheet metal when I did my rockers. Then smoothed it with a lil bondo and paint.

You should get a hold of Wes at Classic Heartbeat (also a board member) He is the only one I know of who has created a B-Pillar repair panel..pretty nice piece too!

Re: b pillar question

Ive seen them for sale at gmc pauls and even Lmc (much more expensive than gmcpauls). Just wasnt sure if they're welded to anything. Not cheap though.

I got the b-pillar repair panels from WES a while back, they are nice quality! I have yet to start on replacing all these much needed panels on my K5. Just my 2 cents on WES's panels-all good. I bought every panel I need from WES, great service. Got any pic's of your b-pillar areas?

Ive got pics Ill post tomorrow. Do you have a pic of the one you bought from Wes? Is it a double wall piece? Mine is rusty right behind the rocker at the very bottom and when you look from the wheel well area that side is a little worse off (plug side) Does this description make sense?

I forgot he is selling to the big guys now too, but he may give board members a better price..

Looking forward to seeing some pics, I think mine needs them as well..

I have no problem finding the parts just dont know if its a bolt in part. Is the b pillar the part behind the door pillar? Heres pics of what I'm dealing with.

For some reason the pics are turned. The first pic is with the rocker removed, the second is from behind, looking in from the wheel well.

Instead of paying high dollar or the B-pillar patch you could always make your own like i did. They were pretty simple to make. Here are some pictures.

Jjh jimmy , looks good. I may try, well see. Are both my pics of the b pillar or just the one looking from the rear wheel well?

Re: b pillar question

So is my first pic of the b pillar too or is that considered something else? Does anybody have a pic of the b pillar that is being sold by Wes and the other guys? The pics on their sites just show it face down.

Re: b pillar question

I did pretty much what jjh jimmy did. Cut out rust and used those pieces as templates for new metal. Mine was almost gone from years of salt and gravel being thrown from the rear tires.

3529883 1969-72 Blazer / Jimmy rocker box reinforcement assembly plate. This high quality replacement part is manufactured for GMCPauls Truck Parts. This part reinforces the following 3 major points on the underbody by bolting to and joining the rocker box & end cap to the inside of bedside at the rear door pillar and attaches to the step up in floor just behind front seat. They are a direct bolt in replacement for the originals that commonly rust out in these vehicles. Original 16ga steel construction made in the USA. Specify left or right in cart.

Not cheap but looks like what you are after. This is the lower b pillar just behind the rocker that ties all the pieces together and blocks off the rocker box looks like.
