60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
any one have any pics of how the rear bumper was attached? or brackets? want to use a barden style bumper. not much room back on a short fleet. the long bed would have more room. my truck had a home made one that is about at least 150#.

Kimble,
For the K10 models the rear of the frames were sheared off from the factory. Hence all the dealer supplied / home made rear bumbers. If you want a chrome sport bumber you are gonna have to do something like this .. Then you can put the C10 rear brackets on and mount the bumper. Here's mine too after I cut the Dealer bracket off. You'll see that is the way they came factory. Mine had a pretty good angle iron bracket that dropped down and the bumper attached to it. |
Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
Here's a pic of what my dealer installed bumber looked like.
And yeah there was a wasp nest & it must of weight 150tons.. or 150 lbs. |
Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
Now that I think about it. Doesn't JP have a Barden bumper on his GMC 4x4? It is a long stepper though. You might see if he'll offer up a pic or two.

Personally, I think that's a really cool looking bumper. Would love to have those reflectors. Wanna sell them?

Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
Sodly,
thanks, but aerotruk63' literature showed me that they were a dealer install option, so I'm going to hang on to them plus the other two mounted on the bed sides for now. As for the bumper it was pretty rusted. I was hoping to just blast it and re-paint, but it's too far gone & not worth the time or $$. |

Thanks Mitch for the pics. I have a dealer bumper off a 60-62 2wd (frame is wider of course) I guess i will just fab some new mounts up as i want to keep this type of bumper. no chrome for me as i will be keeping my home-made ft with the winch.

Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
there were some frame schematics a while back . they do show a frame extension that bows out. see if I can locate it
try the link below http://imageshack.us/a/img521/5499/l18h.jpg I do have a oem chrome rear bumper and brackets for a 62 ron |
Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
Mitch
is your rear cross sill brackets riveted on (bracket right behind spring hanger)? my bumper bolted on the outside of the frame, and the cross sill brackets were moved out the thickness of the bumper brackets and bolted back on (sill attachment holes were elongated also) I need to borrow my buddy's plasma cutter----- |
Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
Yep, everything is still riveted, including the rear cross sill. I do like that lighter 703A paint code on the 61's! Boy it's gonna be tough when I have to buy paint! lol. When you lay that hood on the front clip snap a picture for me. That last one looked real good.

So I may not have lost as much frame as I thought. I thought 15"-16" had been cut off, or is the frame only like yours on the K10's not the K1000 GMC's? |
Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
mine is just like Mitch's in his frame pic, don't know about gmc 1000's. not much info out there. Ron--the62 bumper you have 4x4? probably is or you wouldn't posted. any pic of the brackets?

Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
Chevy_Man5,
Glad to see you back on that truck! I remember seeing it when I first joined at the begining of the year. I'd like to see some good pics as you progress along too. As for the frame, I'd assume that you should have about 6" in or so after the cross sill, just like the Chevy K10's. But who know's what all someone did to these trucks once they left the factory.. Every Dealer had a "mechanic/welder" that fabbed up some of their own personal modifications to add a bumper, if the person wanted to pay for it. Also, anybody that bought the truck could have modified it at the farm / ranch to do it his own self as well. |

I have only 4" behind the rear most cross member (not the cross sill) I made up some brackets in wood for mock-up. now if they work, will have to cut some out of steel and weld to the bumper. will try to mock-up today. (pulled a mussel in my back) so don't know if it will happen today. tough getting old---hey Mitch here is a teaser for ya.

Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
I've spent hours searching GM wiki parts. I'm convinced GM did not offer a rear sport bumper as an option on 60-66 K series pickups. I hope I'm wrong, I'd love to have one on my truck.

Re: 60-66 4x4 sf-side rear bumper
Rear frame extensions were used on Panels and Carryalls. If you notice in the option list, The Custom Chrome Option V37 only includes a front bumper for pickups/Chassis Cabs and front/rear for Panels and Carryalls
