78 Silverado - Pancho Lives! (Pics)

Four or five years ago, I started a frame off restoration on a '78 Silverado. It's been "close" for a long time, but business, personal, family with a little laziness mixed in, have kept completion at bay.

About two months ago, I decided it was time. There was tons of things to do to get the project finished and ready for Ebay. It was last worked on about a year and a half ago, when we decided to put AFR 195 Street heads on the motor, along with a swap to a little milder cam. A roller cam!

Yesterday, after may weeks of work, we finally got it started again and did a break-in. Took it for a spin around the block and was just blown away! It's been a long time waiting! Today, I pulled it out to wash the truck down of the dust and started the tedious process of polishing.

Took some pics, thought I'd post them up:

Still have a few things left to do. It has a killer audio systems. Alpine, JBL Audio amp and component speakers with a self-enclosed powered sub. Need to get the wiring to the battery nice and tucked in. Front grill and headlight bezels. Just small things now.

I'll post some more pics as progress continues!

Hah! I love that steering wheel! It's a '59 Impala "repro" steering wheel. I picked it up on Ebay a few years ago.

I had spent days going through steering wheel threads and came across a photo of a truck with that type of steering wheel. At that point, the search was over!

BTW, love your truck! Back in the early days of the build, I used to look at photos of your truck for inspiration. That color is absolutely beautiful!

PANCHO es muy grando! Glad he's prowling the streets again! I so wish I could give him a good home, but the situation doesn't allow it. Me sad. Glad for you! Enjoy!

Heck yeah, I remember Pancho! It's only been a few months since I last read through the thread...figured he was out running around all this time.

What are those seats in Pancho? Stock bucket option or are they from another vehicle?

Beautiful Truck You Spared No Expense To Build, I Remember Following The Build As You Were Building It. I Don't Think I Could Let It Go But I Hope It Goes To A Good Home. Glws....

Thanks everyone for the comments. Will try to have some more pics up later today. I spent yesterday doing stage two of the polish. Came across a few areas that needed just a wee bit more wet sanding to be perfect. Hoping to finish the final polishing up today. Then three coats of Zaino and get the audio wiring from the firewall to the battery cleaned up.

Jonboy - I hear ya. I hate to do it, but business has been slow for quite some time.

Rudey - The low back seats were available in 73-77 trucks, as I recall. I picked up a set for sale here on the forum, but one seat the foam was pretty rough. I bought a single seat from Jeff to end up with a matching set. Ordered new seat upholstery, hog clips and recovered them.

Thanks, BruthaMan. I just bought an 84 Longbed and I can't get around the fact that there is very little leg room between the stock bench seat and the giant 16" steering wheel. Add my non-tilt steering column to the mix and I'm SOL unless I change any of the above. The seats in your truck are the first buckets that I've liked.

The truck looks great. Good luck in the sale.
