65 Suburban Quarter Panel Patches
2 Attachment(s)
I have on the list to cut and swap the passenger rear quarter panel on my 65 it had a nasty something back in the day and I think pulling pounding and smoothing with minimal filler is out of the question for this guy. Which sucks because it has great patina'd paint. Here are a couple pics of the damage.
Does anyone make replacement parts or have a line on cut up pieces? Thanks HaNK |
Re: 65 Suburban Quarter Panel Patches
A good body man can straighten that out. It's a clean Suburban otherwise, why cut it up, spend a couple bucks on a body man. the damage isn't real bad.

Re: 65 Suburban Quarter Panel Patches
That's fixable. No need to Frankenstein that OG panel.

Re: 65 Suburban Quarter Panel Patches
note that 63burban said a good bodyman.

Re: 65 Suburban Quarter Panel Patches
I agree with trying to find a 'good' body man, one that knows how to work metal.

Re: 65 Suburban Quarter Panel Patches
I think I would go at that from cutting a patch on the inside and working it out. It definately looks fixeable to me.

Re: 65 Suburban Quarter Panel Patches
That should be fixable. The damage to my rear quarter was worse than that and I fixed it at home with minimal tools and I am no panelbeater. There should be some pics on my build thread.I cut the inner panel to gain some more access to the panel.

Re: 65 Suburban Quarter Panel Patches
Thanks Kiwi we were checking out cutting an access hole in the inner panel from under neath to get at that nastiness.

Re: 65 Suburban Quarter Panel Patches
There is no substructure behind there.. It's completely hollow.. It was recommended I cut the inner panel from my suburban to repair mine--but mine wasn't so bad.. For yours.. I'd recommend cutting it out possibly on the inside and working that out.. You may be able to save your original paint, or a large majority of it... Repairing the inner part and painting it won't be as difficult as the outside..
Remove the right tail light and take a look inside and you'll know what you're working with.. |
