New (to me) 68.

Just bought this old beauty from West Virginia. New to trucks but knew I wanted one so I was impatient and bought the first thing that jumped at me. If anyone has any constructive criticism or ideas on what do please shoot them at me. I also appreciate negative put downs although I'd rather not listen to them.

Here are some more pics. The rear frame support is broken as you can see in the pic and the drivers side rear shock mount has broke off. Other than that, everything else is solid. The only rust on it are in the bottom corners of the doors.I am not digging the '88 bed on it either but until I can save up some money for the original step side, this will have to do. I am currently looking for parts so if anyone has extra things laying around give me a holler.

I would put the correct year bed on it and roll it as is. Looks like a nice truck.

Thanks, If I could afford on right now I would. I'd actually like to get the fleet side for the room in the back. I'm not sure how much a 4X8 bed would hold.

Welcome to the board! Looks like a nice starting point. If it were me, I would take the lift off, or at least drop it to a two or three inch lift. It would likely be a little safer and imo lookma little better. I would just get it safe and drive it after that.

Looks like a good truck to start your build! The rear lift blocks should go away. Too much axle wrap if you 4 wheel it or dump the clutch a little! Repair the frame and cross member. Check the steering and brakes and have fun building this into YOUR truck!
All the best ,Dirk

Looks like a fun ride.

I agree with the lifted blocks gotta go. That just looks too dangerous.

Keep an eye on the classifieds here and on craigslist for a bed.

As others have said, you may want to replace the rear blocks with new rear springs. I wouldn't make that a high priority though. Many guys have run blocks without issue. Most preffer new springs though. What you REALLY SHOULD DO though is put the right pitman arm on there for you lift. Looks like it is still the stock one. Measure the height of your rear blocks to get an idea of what lift is in there then get the right pitman arm.
