Looking at a 1975 blazer.

it appears to have been mostly yellow at some point. haven't seen it in person yet though. can anyone tell me if 1975 Blazers had an original factory yellow color? i THINk i have attached a picture.

Supposedly $6500 I'm going to see it in an hour or so. Will report back tomorrow on overall condition and result :)

wow no offense but seems pretty high priced :( I paid $2500 for mine had a new motor to. mine had a stock paint job body was about 7 not cherry but not bad interior was original so not to clean. if it was me I would try to talk him down theres some in my area selling for $3500-$5000 with sooped up motors

Well i went to see it. There have been lots of small things done at some cost but they've spent $10k to make a $2K+ vehicle. Lifted with big tyres is all very well but there LITERALLY - and I use the word entirely correctly - was 270 degrees of play in the steering wheel before there was any turn which made it completely unsafe to drive. Almost like they upgraded height and suspension etc but the steering gear is just not powerful enough to do anything. This area is waaay beyond my skill and comfort level so no go for me.

and ps no offense taken at all. I'm absolutely new to this area of vehicles, so the more advice the better. I have a $5000 budget and I'm sticking to it - as long as the vehicle is running well and holding together i have 20 years to get it up to great condition. I'm in redwood city California though and things tend to be pricier round here.

that is SPOOKY. i JUST texted the guy 30 mins ago and I am trying to get out there tomorrow to see it. Weird small world. any alarm bells ringing from the ad? I am a complete newbie to this. ie only EVER owned small japanese or british cars.

aaah. i was JUST about to set off to see it Saturday (it's a two hour drive) and i got a text saying his friend was going to buy it. It turns out a friend it trying to get the cash together. owner is giving him a week then I'll get first dibs thereafter. I'm not holding my breath but fingers are crossed. i did not drive the two hours though. However I have spoken to a guy who owns a stock / unlifted 74 locally and i may go see that this coming week. Apparently needs a new transmission though which is beyond my capability at present. how much would it cost (ballpark) to get a new tranny installed?

Next entry on my quest for a truck....... there is a posting on the local craigslist - vehicle looks solid and appears to have good bodywork, BUT it also says this : "Needs drivelines replaced or rebuilt since the turbo 400 is longer than the standard, the driveline in is fully compressed so it works to drive but they need done to be correct"
is this a huge alarm bell or is it a common and therefore solveable problem. Should it even BE a problem or is it indicative of someone that doesn't know what they're doing working on it? |

Maybe, maybe not. You will just need to look it over real good. Probably set aside $300 for each driveline. Need all new ujoints, balanced, and corrected length.
Just because it has a different tranny doesn't mean it was done properly. Look it over real good. And fyi, any $6500 blazer better be in great shape!! And not abused. That yellow one looks like a $2500 truck to me.... Look at steering box and frame around it. Very common to have frame cracks. Fixable, but just cost money and contributes to a more sloppy feeling front end. For $5000 you should be able to find a solid, pretty rust free, good running truck. |

That's what I'm aiming for. Problem is that every one round here seems to have been lifted miles, and I'd prefer it to not be lifted at all. normal height is 73 inches. I have 80 inches under my car port or I'm raising the deck to accommodate. That will NOT please the bank manager / wife:)

Update here the Second truck, of which the link is now empty did not sell so I'm heading out tomorrow cash in hand to look at it. it's 120 miles away so i'm going to have to pull a fast one to get AA to tow it back here. I'll disconnect the battery so it doesn't run and then use one of my tows for the year to get it back home. Quite excited about this now. fingers crossed for me.

Well that one is put off til Saturday morning. Have three more to check out but I am wary. one has the driveline issue, one needs a new transmission and seats / interior and they're asking $3500 so it's probably too much and my preferred vehicle (which is a 72 jimmy) needs rear brakes. Starting to wonder if this is a good idea after all or if its even possible to get one in useable condition that i can learn to work on over time (plus is I don't need a car to commute).

checked out a 75 this morning. all stock and looked great ...apart from the following.
Drivers side floorpan has a see through hole in the corner and under the door is bubbling. Right side rocket box has two large cut holes and inside you can see where a floor pan has been placed OVER rusty as hell old floor (as opposed to replacing it). Mechanically she runs sweetly and has original 400 engine and is all matching etc to the original spec card from the dealer. Actual frame / chassis looks good. new fuel tank and springs in evidence. My bodywork guy tells me probably $2k to get floors cut out and rewelded in place that would leave me a blank canvas for the interior to line as I see fit. Does this seem about right? |

what was the price on this one again? $2K for floors???!!! WOW a buddy and me did the front floor pans on my fleetline cost me $45 in metal $30 in beer that even seems like a lot for the whole floor board front to back.

I cant weld - have to pay someone to do it. Hourly rates here in bodyshop places are up in the $80 - $95 per hour. Huge suckiness.

further update, and low rodder chev was right. a guy called back that i left a message for over a month ago that was selling a 75 blazer.went round to check it out and it seems to be rust free. Frame was obviously coated with something or other and the panels and floors seem really solid. It needs a torque converter cover, the front driveline isn't hooked up and the rear gate window mechanism isn't functioning. otherwsie is greta condition. Even better is $1000 worth of new 18" rims which i can sell to put something more original on if I feel so inclined. Looks like the original color under a respray was orangeish, but restoring it completely is several years off. decision to be made inside 48 hours.
