HELP! turn signal install...wtf..where do they go?

2 Attachment(s)
OK so I took apart my steering column, making sure to take pics as I went. The problems I'm having are..for some reason the pics are awol and I cannot find an exploded view or diagram that show where these little jump out of somewhere pieces go. I know I'm not that much more efficient than the factory, so....HELP!! Where do they go....anybody...Pics would be so helpful but I can try to follow instructions. ANY help would be much appreciated. :hh::help:

but for your immediate issue:

section 3, external links, 60-66 truck sites:

hilandr451 60-66 chevy truck site has a tutorial about replacing the whole switch.

I searched everywhere! I always search the forum before I ask for help, I don't want to be a pain in anyone's backside. If I search and it doesn't come up I can't read it though. Thank you for responding and I will try and find both leads.

I checked out all areas of "FAQ'S" and Hilandrs' link and then some. I cannot find ANY info on where these two pieces go. I just bought the part to repair the broken blinker switch, ended up taking the whole column apart for other reasons. Does ANYBODY know what these parts are and where they go? Or do I just have to buy a whole new switch kit and wire it in?

I had those printed out before I started this fiasco, unfortunately nothing shows the turn signal switch and/or that little plastic piece. Thank you though for trying!

OK I know where the brass ring goes, but where does the little plastic dohicky thing go????????????

Re: HELP! turn signal install...wtf..where do they go?

First off, you need to use the right terminology!! That is obviously not a dohicky. It is most definitely a thing-a-majing... LOL

I recall having about the same problem with my son's truck, but luckily we had pictures. I will try to remember to look when I get home. Good luck until then!

What year of truck. I just rebuilt a 64 gmc column and that plastic peace does not look at all familiar.

Re: HELP! turn signal install...wtf..where do they go?

I'm working with a 66...you may not have seen anything like it because it jumps out of wherever it goes and bounces around...I just happened to see where it went, not where it came from. I'm about ready to consider myself more efficient than the factory...for now. The blinkers seem to lock on ok, they click off when I turn the wheel...whether or not they work I won't know until I get the truck back together again and have power going to them. Until then..if anybody knows, by all means enlighten me

Well, finally made it home, but cannot find the pictures. I found the ones where we took apart and repaired the one in my '60, but that is a whole different animal. If I get some time this weekend, I will pull his apart again and see.

Good luck!

60 is all different 64 to 66 would be the same. Thanks you though for the offer. Judging by the amount of feedback I'm getting I think this will forever be a mystery. Most likely though someone will decide to answer as soon as I'm done washing my hands after finishing putting the column together

Now I could be wrong, but I always thought a thing-a-majig served a purpose, you knew what that purpose was but just couldn't think of the name. A dohicky was always one of those oddball little things that you stand there scratching your head wondering what it is, where it came from and is it reeaally necessary to put back....That being said, I do believe I have the right term...then again I have been wrong before...just ask my wife :tms:

Protesting a little at work today, so have been digging all over the net looking for something for you. I should actually get off work on time today, so hopefully be able to take apart my son's column and get a look at it. I didn't find anything at all that even looked similar to what you have. Are you positive it is a stock column? Maybe post a pic or two of the column, and someone smarter than me could help.

Re: HELP! turn signal install...wtf..where do they go?

I just had my 62 GMC apart and it was completely different. Sorry no help.
Those parts look familier though...I also have a 63 Nova. Maybe they are the same?
If you are still stuck tomorrow I can look at the library here. They have a good reference section.

Boxer957, I took apart my sons steering wheel last night, and it does not have those parts in it. I took pics, but didn't end up with time to get them on here. It has this in the column.

I really appreciate your time and effort trying to figure this out. At this point I'm just going to let it go the way it is. When I get it running if something doesn't work I'll worry about it then. I just figured someone might see it and know exactly what it was when they saw it. Once again thanks so much for taking the time to try and figure it out.

Re: HELP! turn signal install...wtf..where do they go?

Do you have any pics of the column itself? It may have been swapped out at some point in the past, and we are barking up the wrong tree. LOL

And no problem on trying to help, that is what this forum is for!

It was a one owner truck, I've already replace the shaft bearings and turn signal cam. everything fit just fine. I know it's the original column....just don't know where that little plastic piece came from....

Re: HELP! turn signal install...wtf..where do they go?

Can you post a pic of your column? Those parts do not look 60-66 and I believe your column may have been replaced by the PO.
