bench bleed master with proportion valve ?
hello - just put disc on the front of my 66 fleetside.
the truck came with bendix powerbrake , I am staying with original booster. but I now have the corvette style master with proportioning valve. I want to bench bleed but would like to know if the proportion valve is bleed with the bench bleed .... or what / how exactly do I handle the proportioning valve when putting it all to gether ! thanks paul |
Re: bench bleed master with proportion valve ?
Bench bleed the master, install prop valve and bleed system starting with rt rear, left rr, rt front then left front is how I have always done it. I use a 10" piece of hose over the bled screw and into the bottom of a mason jar half full of fluid. As you press the pedal, it will force the air into the bottom of the jar ( clear so you can watch) and will suck fluid from the jar on the back stroke. Keep pumping until no visible air. Much quicker than letting it shoot across the axle and cleaner. Remember to check the reservoir each time.

thanks newfisher-
so just bench bleed master - then bolt it on and attach proportioning valve and bleed system in normal way ? the proportioning valve does not then need any prior bleeding (its new) ? thanks paul |

Re: bench bleed master with proportion valve ?
Farthest from the master cylinder on our left hand drive trucks here in the USA is the locAtion I suggested ...the rt rear :)
I suppose on some trucks the line runs from master to rt side then back , crosses to middle and then splits left and right so the length of line is nearly the same but as the crow flys, the right rear is the furthest. |
Re: bench bleed master with proportion valve ?
This is how I have always bled brakes. On the '60-'72 GM trucks the left rear is the farthest from the master cylinder. The brake line from the front goes down the right side of the frame, to the connection with the hose. The hose drops down to the right axle tube on the differential. Then the hard line travels over the center of the differential to the left rear wheel cylinder. The left rear wheel cylinder is farther down the brake line than the right rear wheel cylinder.

Re: bench bleed master with proportion valve ?
i think you guys are saying the same thing, one of you is calling the left rear from looking at it from the front, and the other is saying the right rear looking at the truck from the back.. if that makes sense.. use the drivers seat as your reference point

Re: bench bleed master with proportion valve ?
Ok.....I bleed mine on my 65..... driver rear first....passenger rear....passenger front...driver front...in that order
