Here is a picture of my c-10 after I dropped it another 2". Total drop now is about 5 in the front and 7 in the rear. I think I am going to go another inch in the rear.Attachment 1171163

Re: My '69 c-10
So, this begs the question....C-notch?
It looks like from the pics that you have trailing arms...right? I did a 4" drop in the rear of mine and I am always hitting the bump-stops, even with new quality shocks all around. |
Re: My '69 c-10
Yes it does have trailing arms. I have the notch, just have not put it in yet. I had 5" drop springs on the rear and never hit the stops. Still have about 2" of clearance from axle tube to frame. I still have to set the front end and re-center the rear end before I take it down the road.

Re: My '69 c-10
My rear drop is 4"...no C-notch...and I still hit the stops. Hmmm...I have 18" wheels which should not affect the axle distance to the bump stops. I have "maybe 2 inches" between the bump stops and the axle tubes.
I'm thinking of cutting the bump stops down to give me another inch of travel so it doesn't hit. One thing for sure...I can't drop it 7". My total drop is 3.5" F and 4" rear. I'll post pics in a few....:metal: |
Re: My '69 c-10
Sounds good. I would like to see it. I cut the bump stops off when I put the blocks in the other day. They had to go for the c-notch.

Re: My '69 c-10
Okay...So here is the clearance I have with a 3.5" and 4" drop and I still hit the stops in the rear. Front has no issues...

Re: My '69 c-10
I don't know. I don't have much travel in the rear of my truck. It is pretty stiff.

Re: My '69 c-10
Hey B...Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated! It helped me understand what I have and which direction I need to head going forward. GO DAWGS!!!!!

Re: My '69 c-10
you can cut down the bump stops. They even make these little mini bump stops I got a couple from DJM with a kit I bought from them. They are only about an 1" tall if even that.

Re: My '69 c-10
looks good... I just ordered some parts for my truck as well for the 5 1/2" front and 7" rear drop. Im 4 1/2" front and 5" rear now, needed MOAR Low... :)
Love your truck man... Eric (Evaded) |

Re: My '69 c-10
New weekend project....Cut down the bump stops. Not interested in giving someone my $ for "alternative" stops...just yet. So a sawzall and some good lines...all leading to more clearance. I got it...bump stops are almost 44 years old...are they even rubber anymore! LOL!!
Evaded...Love SA! Been to FSH so many times I can't even count! Excellent town with a lot of attitude! SO many Army folks I know live there. |

Keating, I don't remember the tire sizes but rims are 20's. I will check tires tomorrow.

After being in the Army for these many years my Family and I are SO proud to still be serving this country! Thank you! Appreciate your comments as I have been saving, working and drudging through it all for a while now. My wife calls the CST my "Mistress." Lol! Anyway, I'll cut them down a bit at a time this weekend. I'd just like more clearance over all the bumps I encounter. It is a nice truck but I do drive it often...because I like it. My drop is: FT 2.5" springs AND 1" drop spindles. I didn't want too much trim for the upper control arms. Rims are 8X8 with 255/45/18 tires. Rear: 4" drop springs. Rims are 8X9.5 with 275/40/18 tires. I like a little rake in it from front to rear...Ole Skool :metal: |
Re: My '69 c-10
Bsteele...your ride is sweet. Looks like it's unmolested and a solid "Southern Truck!"
Good luck on your C-Notch! |

Cutting them should work. Like I said, I've read other posts where its worked for them! If that doesn't work, you could go with 2" blocks and 2" drop springs for more suspension travel. That's my part of my plan...so far...:uhmk: What do you mean "didn't want too much trim for the upper control arms?" I was thinking 2" to 2.5" drop spindles. You disagree with that? I'm like you, A little rake=Awesome Stance!! :alc: |
Re: My '69 c-10
Keating, fronts are 255/45/20 and the rears are 275/45/20. Rears are about an inch taller than the fronts.

So what are you looking for with your stance? Truck closer to ground? Less space between the tires and wheel wells? Both? Just curious. Thanks |
Re: My '69 c-10
Ole Greenie. What brand did you go with for your drop? I have to fix the previous owners drop so I trying to get that figured out.

Re: My '69 c-10
I little of both. My brother has a '65 on air ride with all porterbilt stuff on it. It will lay frame with 20's. Mine looks like a 4 wheel drive beside his.
