2014 GMC tailgate dampener

Can I retrofit this to my 2013 Silverado? I can`t find out anywhere how it works.

The mechanism on the 2014 is inside the tailgate. Get the EZ-down from Dee Zee. I had one on my 2010 and It was the first thing I got for my 2013. Its about $40 or so and installs easily. Drops the tailgate down nice and easy.
