Headliner question

As I re-assemble my truck, Id like to install a headliner. The issue Im having is that I really dont want to cut all the slots in the inner top to install the chrome trim.
So, my question is--- Has anyone run the factory style headliner Without the chrome/stainless outer trim? If so, how did the edges look?
Ive also thought about making my own headliner and glueing it into place.
If you have headliner pics--would you show them?

Re: Headliner question

The truck in my avatar didn't have a headliner in it from the factory. I'm pretty sure that I clipped the locking tabs off of the trim and just used the screws to hold up the trim. The last time that I had the headliner out was 1995, so I'm not 100% possitive on this. I do remember for certain that I used 3M spray trim adhesive on the headliner itself.

x2

I just clipped the part off that went in the slots and used the screws with no glue.

Here is one I put up in my "notchless" C-10. I trimmed the tabs on the chrome pieces and used the screws to attach it after glueing up the headliner.

Re: Headliner question

I have another question while Im at it-----

Has anyone used the plastic/fiberglass(?) Highliner? Thats the molded unit with the speakers in it. I wouldnt want to put the radio in it, but that might be an interesting place for a clock or an indoor/outdoor thermometer-----or just an interesting place to stash your millions!!!
