Anyone know what this stuff is and where I can get new?

I'm working on my 86' stepside and there's a gasket like substance where the steps meet the body and also on the doors themselves (door side of the door jam) I'm getting close to paint and this stuff is flaking off and missing in spots. I'm trying to find where I can get new before I paint. Thanks guys

Does it look like old dried up caulking?

I could be wrong but I don't think they came from GM with anything between the fenders and bedsides. Straight metal to metal.
Someone my have added it along they way.

I don't see much of a need for it. It might start some grounding issues

It looks factory but yes it does look like old dried up caulking. I'll try to post a picture today

Inside the door is a seam sealer (liquid applied, dried in place).

My recollection is that between the fender and box side there is a "welting" material, like was used on a Ford Model A. This was a loose (bulk) part that was installed behind the fender before installation.

I could be wrong on the stepside fender, though.

(I'm not wrong on the door ).

There's no replacement part for the fender sealer. Your best bet is to tape the top of the fender and run a bead of urethane windshield sealer on the fender lip. Smooth it down so it covers the whole lip. Presto - instant fender gasket

Seam sealer is used in most cars and truck where body panels are welded or bolted together. Any body shop supply will have it. I wouldn't use just any caulk type material, paint won't stick to it very long.
