New guy in Mich. and i just scored a clean 64 swb

I have always loved the old Chevy shortbed fleetside pick ups and now that my LS fox Mustang is done i was starting to get a little bored with nothing to work on so i found me a project..

1964 chevy short bed that needs a little tlc but over all nice truck and vary solid and has a 383 stroker and 4 speed transmission with a 12 bolt rear end with 411 gears, truck has the bigger tubs in the bed and the guy said he thinks it will take a 13 or 14 inch rear tire......Also he gave me a ton of extra parts....super nice guy..

I`m going to have lots of questions and any help would be great....i have wanted a old chevy fleetside for the last 20 years....

I just found this forum 2 days ago and love it...

Hey guys thanks and i`m in Farmington Hills, mi.......I think i`m going to give the 383 motor and stickshift 4 spd a chance......The headers leak real bad and are the wrong ones but he gave me the correct ones and i`m putting them on now....before i took it apart i took it down the street for the first time and it burned rubber in first gear till i let off and in 2nd gear samething thing.....i said yaaahooo.....but it only was one wheel peel......I think for now i`m just going to fix a few problems and just drive it for now......BUT i have the itch to put my Carburated LS3 motor and th400 trans in it that has 600hp......

Heres my first round of questions

What would i have to do to the rear end so it can handle say 600hp ?? yes i would have a new driveshaft made to handle the new power.....

Can i buy Strange or Moser axles and spool ???

Who makes the best adjustable LS motor mounts, headers and i would need a trans cross member for my th400......???

Would it be cheeper to get my bumpers, grill rechromed or just by new ???

Who has the best prices for new bumpers, etc etc etc ???

If you put them in the classifieds here, they wont last long if the prices are decent.

Welcome fellow Michigander!! That LS looks like it is under the hood of a ffff.... I can't even type it !! This is the best place on the net ,great bunch of guys ,as far as what the rear will handle ,If it has a 12 bolt I suspect you should be fine .. I have only destroyed one in this lifetime and that was from ignorance ...

nice truck to start with, and yes the ls3 motor would look killer in the truck! there is a suspension section on here that might help you out, the rearend can handle 600hp.+ with a few things so you dont shatter it! and you can get a 15x29x15 without cutting the frame with the right offset and backspacing, look at rocktonka thread in the suburban section, he did what I am going to be doing this summer!
