Let's see your homemade crafts!

There has to be some other people on here that make their own stuff. Post up some pictures of anything you made such as furniture, knives, stained glass, pottery, etc. I will start with the knife I just finished making. The handles are mahogany and the steel came from our scrap pile so I am not sure what type it is but it is definitely some hard steel.

I have made quite a few things in my lifetime. It seems like I always choose the hardest things to make so I usually only make one of them. I never use kits because I like to build things from scratch... It started when I was young. I used to build Crystal radios and balsa wood model planes when I was in my teens.. Some of the things I have made are: a tooled leather holster and belt, clocks (quite a few of these), stained glass, metal toys, a dry washer (for prospecting), A Dulcimer, a knife, did some metal casting, and a couple of display cases. Oh, and the wife and I built our house, from the ground up... Here are a couple of pictures of the dry washer and one of my grandson holding the Dulcimer. The Dulcimer was built from hand cut Cherry wood from my uncles farm in Indiana. The pictures are kind of small. LockDoc |

I've dubbed around in the shop for a lot of years. Built boats for a while, then furniture, currently RC models. Had to build the cradles and hope chests for the grandkids. The sleigh and rocking horse was by request.

I just got orders for 2 doll beds for granddaughters Christmas Presents. I'll post pics when I get them done. I would rather make them out of metal than wood though!!!

Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!
Thank you Shortbox. It was one of my favorites.
An interesting thing about the mahogany box in the '33 Ford pickup is except for the bottom and the light trim, all of the parts; front, back, ends, top, and dark trim came from one magnificent board. |

Man, you guys have made some excellent stuff... Here are pictures of a couple more things I made. First is a firetruck made out of metal. First picture shows the parts and the second shows it put together. It is 26" long so it is pretty good size. Second is the first and only knife I ever made. The metal is from a 1964 Chevy II leaf spring because it is the thinnest one I could find at the salvage yard. My hands about fell off before I got it ground down. As you can see in the one picture I still haven't finished polishing it. The piece of antler is from a road kill buck. It weighs about one pound. I'll dig out pictures of a couple more things later. Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!

Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!
Leon, the fire truck is excellent! Where did you source the wheels and tires? Did you build the truck around them, or were you able to find them after the build?

Thanks guys. slomotion: I used an original 1920's Turner Toys fire truck as a pattern for mine. Replacement wheels were available for the Turner Toys truck so I used them on that one. The ladders were available too but I decided to make my own. The company I bought them from was called Thomas Toys, Inc. Here are a couple of pictures of the first one I made and it is exactly like the original toy. I didn't know about the reproduction wheels and headlight buckets at that time so I used the wheels off of one of the kids small toy wagons on it....:).. You can also see that there are no headlights on them but there should be. This one doesn't have the brass radiator shell on it either. LockDoc |
