tighten gas cap warning !!!

my 04 2500hd occasionally gives me the tighten gas cap warning even tho i've put a new cap on and it's tight as i can get it. also i smell raw gas sometimes when i first get out of truck but like i said gas cap is tight, friend said it might be a vent control solenoid thats on back of gas tank may be bad, any suggestions ??

Could be something with evap emissions, or the filler neck. Have you inspected the fill tube and neck? Start there.
