quiet mufflers

Hey everyone I'm looking for a set of quiet mufflers, At the moment I'm going to be doing a simple carbed lsx swap and I want to keep things quiet because I drive the truck 80-90miles a day. I will be putting exhaust cuts out in later or turbochargers which ever comes first . so I want to get a set of cheap super quiet 3" in/out muffles just to get the truck going down the road with out any one thinking to much about it. thank you any one for any advice

Re: quiet mufflers

The Dynomax Ultra flows are really quiet as compared to a Flowmaster or Magnaflow and have really impressive flow numbers. Another option would be the Summit brand turbo mufflers. Stay away from anything that says chambered and you should be alright.

Second the Dynomax mufflers, actually almost too quiet for me but do quite well in my 72.

Re: quiet mufflers

ya would those mufflers be quieter the a 70 series muffler?

Re: quiet mufflers

Yes, they sound almost stock. Hardly any sound at idle, no resonance, and a slight rumble at full throttle. Almost all Flowmasters have a decent amount of in cab resonance and more rumble at idle.

Another vote for Dynomax.

Re: quiet mufflers

I have the non "SS" Ultra Flows, the chambered bigger bodied mufflers. My exhaust is 2.5" with an H pipe and it has been 5 years but I think my part numbers were 17219. Hope that helps. Definitely search around for youtube clips if you have time/energy, not going to be exact but it should give you an idea.

70 series mufflers on my pickup truck. Dual 3" to the roll pan. No H pipe.
No interior save hush mat on the floor. Can Cary a normal conversation at 3500 rpm strut down the interstate.
No b*tchin neighbors either

I'm running these:

Dynomax#289-17222
Ultra-Flo Welded Muffler
Offset In/Out: 2.5"
Length: 14" Body, 19" Overall

They're on my LWB '72 with a mild 468, Hedman headers to 2 1/2" pipe, H-Pipe just behind the transmission, mufflers are above the rear axle and turned down. Not too loud at all, just raspy enough at idle to be noticed. Nice and quiet cruising down the highway.

Re: quiet mufflers

I put a set of stainless Pypes "Street Pro" mufflers and their merged "X" pipe on a driver El Camino with pipes all the way to the rear bumper. I'm REALLY happy with how quiet it is. Can't hear the exhaust at all in the cabin, but has a nice 'muscle car rumble' from behind the back bumper.

Put a set of Borla mufflers on the 11:1 LS383 sand buggy (straight off the headers) There too I am AMAZED how nice and quiet they are. Borla gets my vote here forward. Here's a You-tube of those.

Re: quiet mufflers

Awesome guys thanks for all the information on the mufflers, I'm surprised at the amount guy who really like the Dynomax mufflers, so when the time come to buy I will go with the Dynomax Ultra-Flo SS Mufflers because there only $69.99 and from what every one is saying they will meet my demands

Re: quiet mufflers

Another nod for Borla - they have some of the best flow rates to sound attenuation ratios in the industry. I ran a set of Borlas on my Super Gas/Street car for nearly 30 years, and they were one of the few parts I never had to replace (while friends and fellow racers had to replace mufflers because they rusted through or fell apart inside the case). I run Borlas on all of my hot rods.

I'm also a big borla fan.

Re: quiet mufflers

Cheapest 3" turbo muffler from summit I could find. I do have duak electric cut outs in my x-pipe so flow did not matter.
