Another New Guy building a 49'
1 Attachment(s)
This will be my first build after 17 years of dirt track racing had to find a new hobby. I got this truck that had already been started and sitting on a S10 Frame with a Blazer Rear end. It is one of the Old Navy trucks that they used in the stores for display. I found a GM crate motor and a 700r4 on Craigslist and going with that as my drive train for now. I have installed the fuel cell under what the bed floor will be and have Framed up what will be the new bed floor since truck has been channeled. Still need to install the rear sway bar on it. The cab floor was framed up when I got it and I have been working on installing the sheet metal in it, I got a Tilt Gm van column to install and going with Hydro boost brake system. I sat the engine in per normal mounting brackets were intended but have since moved them around and have gotten the engine back another 4 1/2"-5". Figured it would help with handling and give me more clearance for fan and radiator. I cut out the old firewall and put a smooth one back in. I got this truck about 3-4 weeks ago and hoping to have it done by spring time if not sooner. Going to leave the body alone but make the engine compartment nice and painted and also the inside of the cab. Thanks for reading I have been a Lurker on here for a while now have something to post

Re: Another New Guy building a 49'
Nice build, that is in pretty good shape. The old navy trk I went to look at wasn't even close to that. It was suppose to be, but some how rusted to pieces the 1 1/2 hrs it took me to drive there. Good luck with your project.

Re: Another New Guy building a 49'
Haven't made a ton of progress, have spent a lot of time on the computer researching different things on the build. But did get the Radiator installed and the steering column and steering all finished up. Also got inner fenders made and new bed floor done. Ready to get this mock up done and get to final assembly

Have gotten a few things done getting closer to being done with mock up. Made some sheet metal inner fenders instead of hacking some original ones up. Decided to go with a in-dash stereo, original radio holes had already been deleted so went with a in dash Dvd player and put it in the speaker hole to take up some of the dash space. Still need to block off the ash try area. Also got pedals installed with a under dash brake system from ECI. Bought the complete kit from them with the brake booster. Have the wood bed kit ordered so waiting to get it. Can't wait to see this thing come together after we paint inside the cab and engine compartment..
