chrome tilt column

wondering I fi could get some pics of your trucks with a chrome tilt column installed. I keep seeing them pop up and when the time comes im definitely going to a tilt wheel when it comes time to do the interior, but at the local swap meets ( will be buying it from the vendor that is there year after year, cheapest prices ive seen anywhere) the chrome looks almost plasticy and kind of cheap, and im not sure if the chrome (even if it was a good chrome job) would match the interior of the truck. let see em!:sumo:

I just purchased a black painted one from Classic Performance Products and it looks pretty good. I'll be installing it soon, so if you want to follow along click the link at the bottom of my signature.

I was told that they have a chrome version coming very soon that looks good also. Not sure what the price is for chrome, but I paid $309. for the painted version.

CPP has a chrome column on ebay right now for $189.00 and free shipping

I have a chrome one now and if I had it to do over I would go with a painted one.. They look nice but in my truck when you drive at night the dash lights reflect off the chrome column onto the windshield ( very annoying )... Just my experience

Keep in mind that all steering columns are not created equal. Beware of the Ebay steering columns. This article is worth reading!

It also says this: "It should be noted that the information contained within this LVVTA Information Sheet is LVVTA’s opinions based on evidence and data that has been presented and assessed, and, given the urgency of the situation, best efforts have been made to ensure the accuracy of the information within a compressed time-frame."

I've always believed data supercedes opinion

I have the painted version and it does look good. That being said, I won't know for sure until it's installed which should be in the next couple of weeks. One thing to note, the columns I believe have a lifetime warranty from CCP.

Not to hijack the thread, but before you put it in, make sure everything is clocked right and that it shifts correctly. I made the mistake of not checking until after it was in the truck. The outer housing was clocked about 10 degrees or so off center, and the shifter made a grinding noise...I know this is a problem because I've had two of them with the same problem. I got the same painted one as well...

Just trying to save headaches.

Thanks for the heads up.

Curious what you thought of the quality? Price is certainly right.

I'd check the Vendor Review board before buying from CCP. BTW,PICKMUP gives great deals on Flaming River (no doubt quality) columns all set up to bolt straight in. They are available in brushed (paintable) or polished stainless.

Honestly, I wish I would have just spent a little more for a factory one. But that's just me....

Re: chrome tilt column

...Does the lifetime warranty, on the columns that do not have the "fail-safe" feature, mean it works until it kills you or someone else?...

Steering columns, not an item to cheap out on...

Re: chrome tilt column

If the CPP column was that "dangerous" there would be reports of deaths and injuries all over the place. If you are really that scared they have about 4 different name brands they carry, including Flaming River.

Maybe someone with a chrome column will post a picture...since that is what the OP requested in the first place.

Re: chrome tilt column

I'm surprised no one has shown one. I know lots of people have been buying them. I don't have any pictures, but I had all the housing pieces chromed on a tilt column before, along with other interior pieces, and it looked great. It never bothered me with reflecting light as someone mentioned.

Try a stainless steel one. Never looks cheap and it can't flake like chrome. Even if you spill coffee on it.

Look Frank Hamm up on the list of site sponsoring vendors list here. I think his business is Frank's Pickmups(?). He's in WA. He has Flaming River set them up to bolt-in these trucks and offers great pricing
