[Pix] Flip Kit on a C10 SWB
 

Here's a few pictures I went out and took just now. This is for anyone wondering if they can do a Flip Kit in the back and not have to C-Notch. (I just removed the factory bumpstop bracket) The space between the axle/frame UNLOADED is 4"...

my kit (chassis tech) did not come with shock extenders? I wonder if I should have them?

No flip kits come with shock extenders. IMO, shock extenders are needed with flip kits. When doing a flip, the shock angle changes a lot. Adding extenders will get some of it back to a more proper degree, besides giving you more shock travel.

I agree with swervin. My flip kit from a LONG time ago included them and I think they should include them also. Shocks should be mounted as close to 18 degrees as possible.

Doesn't that change the axle angle too? Shouldn't there be a spacer for the transmission to correct the angle?

From what I gather, where you run into pinion angle trouble is when you don't lower it even. Say if you installed hangers only. This would tilt the pinion up and out of angle. Now if you go with a hanger/shackle combo, you are not changing the angle, only lowering it. What you are after is keeping the pinion angle the same as the tranny output shaft. So, as long as you don't roll the axle position from stock too much, you should be OK.

Yes, and no. Typically you don't need to adjust the pinion angle on a flip. Most of the ones I have seen have the "engineered" the proper angle in there. I have had some people on the internet saying they needed shims, but I haven't. My pinion is usually around 3-4 degrees. You really don't want to change the angle on the transmission though, it will effect the engine/driveline angle. The pinion centerline and the drivetrain centerline should be parallel to each other for proper driveshaft phasing.

I've had the flip kit on my Silverado for a long while without the C-notch and have never bottomed out the frame, the only time it has was when I had to load the bed with a load of rocks for a garden project, flip kit is the way to go, oh and I also got the shock extenders with my flip kit.:cool:

guess I better get some shock extenders.

I guess I better remove my bump stops AND get shock extenders lol.

i put the hangers only, but i also replaced the 3 leaf with 4 leaf. do yall think i need to do something about the pinion angle thing.

you only used the shackles, right? Dropping the rear of the leaf springs 2" really only drops the truck and inch or so. Not enough to worry about. Now if you did use hangers on the front, this will cause a weird pinion angle, IMO. I think I seen it somewhere, they tell you when you buy only hangers you might need to uses some shims to get the angle back right.

FYI: I bought a DJM 5" flip kit from Stylin'Concepts and it included the shock extenders. I think the kit cost me $89 plus shipping.

I lowered my 78 4/6 with a notched frame. I also had to shorten my driveline 1" jay:bowtie:

The Western Chassis flip kit moves the axle back to take care of the driveline. It has an offset hole in the block for this purpose. Are you sure you put the block in the right way?

Seems I opened a can of worms. :D Guess that is what I am good at.

hmmmmm i will have to check to see if the block is placed correctly. I allready had the driveline shorten 1".

On my DJM kit, the hole was offset, to correct driveline angle. (To concur with Mike.)
