Sliding Back vs No Slide Back Glass
 

Currently restoring truck and looking for opinions on sliding back windows. My truck will not have air, and I live in Ky. humid summers. What options do I have on sliding back glass? pics please would be helpful.

Yup, tint on the windows is an option to assist with cooling the cab. One piece rears complete the look of our trucks in my opinion.

A slider makes the sodas in the ice chest easier to get to...

It depends on how you want the truck to look. If you plan to use the truck as a truck and drive it a lot, they're very handy. If you're going for a clean and simple look, though, they tend to take away from the clean look.

I had a slider in mine when it was my daily driver, but when I painted it, I changed to a solid back glass for a clean look. Here's a couple pics to show the difference.

I like the solid back window. Not only for looks but the sliders are really easy to break into.

Tinting the back window does nothing for increasing air flow. In humidity the air is hot,not just the radiance of the sun. When you go into the shade the temp changes very little. I think no slider looks the cleanest/smoothest,but a black frame w/smoked glass is really a minute difference.

I used mine as a way to lock and unlock the truck while I could I looked for my door key, but you have to be very skinny to fit though mine. I just looked threw all my pictures and didn't find a picture with it closed so I would say I use it.

It's easier to open the wing vent to get in.
Seems to me I remember a guy who had a longbed Stepside with no slider out in northern AZ around 1980. He went to the 4th of July Rodeo in Prescott with a buddy and their two gals. I recall (hearing about them) going down the hiway while Ted (his buddy) opened the passenger door,stepped onto the bed step,and reached out "sodas" for everyone. A slider sure would have been nice to have,but not nearly as adventurous

Thanks for all the replies. It will be a weekend driver. I want airflow. Probably won't tint the windows. Does anyone make a three panel slider? I think that might look better than a four panel? I like the access to the "sodas" too... Here is a link to my build.

Sliders are for drivers. The electric are 3 panels I think. my 71 has the slider and U can't beat it when U have the windows down vents open and the back glass open. I don't know how anyone can lock there keys up in one of these trucks unless they have updated the key locks with selonoids because factory doors want let U lock the door then shut it.;):chevy:

Like I said I have the electric one in my Truck. It’s 3 panels and tinted. I get lots of "That’s Cool" comments when people see me open it. I really like it for the air flow.

I really like the slider I had added during my truck's restoration.

It really helps the air to flow through . . . until I get the air conditioning working anyway !!!

I guess I will go with the slider. I do love the clean look of the stock glass, I want the functionality of the slider. Thanks for everyone's input.

I know you made your choice but though I'd put mine with blacked out non-slider glass.
