Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Welcome and nice find. The "smash hit" grill guard is an awesome find....they do not pop up very often. The 64 looks to be nicely optioned too. Im looking forward to more pics and progress.

Id take a look at the panhard bar they rigged up. Normally they run straight across from the frame to the rear end. Seems the previous owner just bent one to work. They are kind of important as they keep the rear end centered. Just a thought

Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
We noticed that. the whole rear end is wrong, its more to one side then the other. i plan of replacing it all soon as i find a replacement 6 lug axle and bar. Thanks for the point out though happy to know someones lookin out for me haha.

Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
No problem. You should be able to find a donar 12 bolt fairly easy. 63 & 64 were 17 spline axles and hard to find. They went to 30 spline in 65 and were used well into the 80's at least that I know of and parts are still available through multiple vendors for the 30 splines.
Also... a pretty big texas crowd here. check out the regional forums on the 67-72 main page and you can probably source one pretty easy there. Multiple places also sell the adjustable panhard bars or tracking bars. |

No problem. The rear end you have will work if there are no issues with it, I'd just get an adjustable track bar.

Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Nice score. The cattle guard is awesome! I'm diggin the under dash a/c unit too!

Anyway, I would use a watts link instead of a pan hard bar. Unless I was going to stay stock. Watts links work way better at keeping the rear strait. And they are not bad in price from here. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Watts-...FahDMgodj2oAQQ Example of how it works. http://image.circletrack.com/f/chass...watts_link.jpg |
Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Thanks guys, I may look into a watts link set up thanks for the suggestion that may just be easier! UPDATE!: Last night i tore the carpet and 2 layer seat covers out to find the Original Interior!! In Great shape seat needs a little cleaning and it has a little wear but nothing major Floor mats EXCELLENT! also pulled the guard off lastnight and sold it to make a little extra coin for the truck.

Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Im debating hot rodding it with body work paint engine and all or just leaving her like she is clear coating and lowering.
|
Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Also Debating, I have a 71' c10 front end ( suspension, Crossmember etc.) its the 5 lug set up so i could convert this truck to disk 5 lug. then id just have to re adjust the rear axle and do the watt set up ?

Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Pretty neat truck. I spy a lot of cool stuff. Wished you'd kept the cattle herder and slammed the truck with it. Truck has some really cool stuff. I bet you'll have a lot of fun with this one.

Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Welcome to the site. It looks like you've got a nice truck to start with. Good luck. One thing I'd like to add is if you decide you don't want that floor mat, they also go for big dollars for originals in excellent shape. :metal:

Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
After a discussion with my parents i am keeping the cattle guard. and will be putting it back on as of tomorrow.

Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Is this a factory a/c truck or dealer installed ?
http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9845c875.jpg |
Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Dealer or aftermarket. Mark IV, Sears, Fridgedaire etc they had several ones to install. I'm in the process of retrofitting one into mine next week.
Good save Mom and Dad on the gaurd. Those things are too cooland getting harder to find. Not many open ranges in the Northwest, so I don't see any up here. Id throw one on mine just to be different |
Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
UPDATE! Pulled out the crappy mismatched 5 lug 10 bolt. and worked an even trade for a 69' 12 bolt 6 lug.

Re: Christine 64' long bed build.
Coming along! If you are not planning on lowering it I would find a nice used panhard bar setup (I threw mine away). If you are lowering it would look into an updated panhard bar setup rather than the watts link. It's more simple and unless you are going to be autocrossing and driving it really hard you won't notice a difference.
The longer and more parallel to the ground the better. Porterbuilt http://www.porterbuiltfabrication.com/?p=274 No Limit http://www.nolimit.net/products#!/~/...47&id=26244500 Love the avatar man! |
