What heater are you using? The aftermarket heaters seems pretty small to work very good. Thanks Rich

I think some of the aftermarket heaters like the ones Vintage air make might be more efficient than the original heaters ever were. The "Deluxe" heater in my truck never seemed to keep up when it really got cold out.

baldeagle lives in arizona, farting in the cab would probably defrost the windshield
i drove my original 58 truck in -10*f with the defrost on full and had a 3'' circle to look out of on each side.
in my panel i had a propane heater placed on the floor in between my legs, pointed at my feet.
and yes, the vintage air heater will run you out of the cab on my truk
it will also frost your toes in 105*f heat :D

I'd want the one with defroster/defogger unless you want to rig a hose on it on your own. From experience the defroster is as or more important in these trucks than the actual heater. You can wear a pair of insulated coveralls but the windshield will frost over if you don't have a flow of warm air past it.

I picked up mine used so I didn't pay anywhere near that price.

The heater works great. For a defroster I built a plenum off the front with PVC pipe and used swimming pool filter hose for vent plumbing. Between the heater and defroster vents a small turbo style fan was added to boost output. I've often wondered if small computer style fans (many are 12 volt) would work to increase airflow to the vents.

The defroster doesn't work like the one in my 80 C-10, but it gets the job done. The quickest fastest defroster is the sheet of plastic I throw over the cab at night. LOL.

Ogre, FYI: Arizona is not just all desert. Lakeside is 6000' and has a similar climate to Denver.
My VA in my 57 heats very well. It is the sure fit series a/c with heat unit. I have had my truck all over AZ and I had a place in Linden AZ for several years. The A/C was quite nice in the summers, but the heater was a blessing in the winter. One of the best things I did tho was to put in new weather stripping to seal up the cab.

It is 17% this morning here in AZ up in the mountains . I think I need a heater more than a air con. The heater from summit looks pretty good VA the hole unit sure would be nice.

Also was concerned about having a defroster/heater. I didn't get anything with the truck.
I got one from Classic parts, it came with defrost hose and the adapters that attach to the defrost outlets under the dash for the 57 truck.

The heater hose outlets are higher than original so I don't think you can use it if you keep the battery in the original location on the firewall.

I wanted it mounted as high as possible which meant I had to shorten the depth of the glove box, I have a center counsel to keep stuff in.

Anyway, here is the Classic parts heater.
