Late model seat in '49
 

Quick question... I have a seat out of a '90 model C-1500 that fits in my '49 pretty good. My question is should I mount it straight to the floor (just bore holes in the floor and mount the seat track) or weld some square tubing in the floor to mount the seat track to for more strength? Thanks

I think welding some large thick fender washers, on the underside of the floor, or pieces of bar stock would be fine. This is the plan I have for my seat.

How is the fit between steering wheel and knees?
Do you have tilt steering to consider?
Any headrests so they don't bulk up back window? can the seat go forward and back easily(wife may want to borrow the wheels)
Can the gas and brake pedal be reached without to much leg effort
Do you want any storage under or behind the seat
things to thunk bout

Those seats sit pretty tall to begin with ( I have one in my 71) I'd bolt it flat to the floor and use the body washers or lengths of flat bar as a reinforcement under the floor but don't think they need to be welded in as they are just to spread the pull of the bolts in a wider area of the floorboards.

I've actually thought about taking an inch or so out of the height of the seat risers under the late model seat in my 71 as it sits a bit higher than I like. That's a pretty easy cut and weld thing.

Thanks, my main concern was if the floor needed to be strengthened up or not.

Just took buckets out and putting in the same seat you are using. I took 1" square tubing and cut a length to reach from the front bolt to the rear and put it under the floor and ran the bolts through it.

I moved the mounts in 2" each side so they fit inside the stock support, set the front with about 2" of rise and drilled through both mounts and support and bolted them to each other. Added a small bracket to take some of the shear off the bolts. Sounds complicated...but really simple and gives me full range forward and backward. Far enough away for me at 6'-3" and close enough for my wife at 5'-3".

that looks good. I replaced the floor in my truck so I don't have the factory seat support anymore.

I mounted mine directly to the floor and then added some 1/8" plate on the bottom to spread the load and also welded nuts on them so I would only need a wrench on the top when installing the seat. Seat height is perfect in the 49 for me (6' tall) and was also comfortable for my buddy who is 6'9".

I'm using a seat from a 1999, Chevy 1500. Bolted to a flat floor with reinforcement plates underneath. GM tilt column, clears my gut just fine, comfortable to sit in.

Along the same line as the original question,when using this later seat, is there room in the rear corners near the floor to install the retractors for shoulder belts? Anyone?

I put a 40/20/40 with intergrated seat belts from a 92 ch pu in my 52, on the flat on floor then used big
peaces of flat steel on under side as reinforcement, lots of room, is tight side to side but ok
