Water source for intake manifold.
Santa brought me Tom Langdon's Manifold for my 250. I am going to install the water heater for the original intake. Per the instructions I'm suposed to tie into the thermostat housing. There is no place on the housing to thread a nipple into. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting water near the t-stat housing? Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

A swivel housing will fit for a small block. Perhaps they make one with an additional port?
I remember reading somewhere the water inlet wasn't super critical except it helps with warming the air/fuel mixture in the manifold, so it can be addressed later. But I haven't done it, but I know its already been answered here somewhere. Good Luck! |

I bought a Clifford Intake instead on the Offenhouser for this reason. With the Clifford Intake you just use heater hose. Here are some pictures of my install.

You would then install the temp sender in one side of the "T" and a hose nipple on the other. Providing hot water thru the intake on the I6 is very critical to prevent fuel puddling and possible engine damage, let alone it improves the overall drivability greatly. |

I agree with tincan, and it is the method that Tom Langdon recommended to me when I asked him about it for my 230. Somewhere around here I have seen a picture of an engine with it done. It was just a "t" with the temp sender in one end and the manifold heat in the other.

comes off the t/stat adapter, i used a molded 90 and if i remember right a 90 nipple

Thanks for the help Tincan. I like the idea of the tee off of the sending unit. Old bleu if you come up with the photos please post them.

something like this work? from vintage air. it's for a V8 but was posted they are the same? one side is cut for the T.

i think this is getting over complicated. you can get the oem, or aftermarket replacement, t/stat adapter with the fittings

tincan---go to summit racing--heating and cooling and then water necks. there is a whole bunch, some with 2 outlets and much cheaper than V air. I just remembered v-a because we used one on a street rod years ago.

You can also drill and tap this spacer that the link goes to so you could have multiple outlets for temp sensor and heater / intake .. It would be best if the return were plumbed into the top of the radiator or into the heater return hose just before the water pump...

I am using a stock one barrel intake. But will be using Tom Langdon's split exhaust. If you still need a photo I can get one tomorrow. |

Can I ask if the aftermarket intakes heat faster than the stock with the water set up? My truck runs great once it warmed up but most of my driving is under 15 min.

the way you have this plumbed you wont get any heat to the manifold when you have the heater off ...i would think you would want to "T" it into the heater return hose near the pump......... if you have a water shut off valve in your heater then when it is off then you don't have any water flow through your intake
