Going to move gas tank
 

I have a cab tank but keep getting a strong gas smell at 3/4 and up. I have a 70 with only one fuel line going out. I have pulled the tank and checked it for leaks. I think I might just put a new tank under the bed, who's tank is a good one and any ideas on how to plug the cab after I pull the cab tank. I thought I might just cut the neck of the tank off and leave it sticking out of the bed. I'm looking for some good ideas on the filler neck also.

There are a few threads here about installing a 69 camaro tank with the fill neck under the rear licence plate. I am going to do that mod. on my 72 C-10.

you can put the filler neck coming from out of the bed, you can make a filler door, or you could run it through the marker light. There are more options for that. and they make patch panels for the cab or make your own! you can look at LMC or classic industries but there are lots more options besides those.

Hide it behind the license plate, that's how I'm doin mine. Hides the neck without having to do any precision bodywork. I'm not sure about what year tank to use I always put fuel cells in mine, summit has a pretty good selection no matter where you put the tank you'll have to run new lines.

LMC sells a 21 gallon rear tank kit that I have been thinking about for $250. If you still have your spare tire under the bed you need to remove it to place the tank.

I have a wood bed so I will have to go through that with the filler neck. The truck is finished so I have no options to build anything through the bed side.

I'm getting ready to do the same thing. Just can't decide what tank to go with. I was reading a thread last night where the guy went through the side marker. That was a really neat idea. Just flip open your side marker and there was your gas cap. I will try to find that build, he posted step by step on the tank conversion and the side marker filler installation. He also provided a link to a tank kit to get for like $195 plus $20 shipping. I will try to find that for ya.

When looking for a tank, consider getting a tank with a pump in the tank. Get one that you could use with efi down the road if that is something you might do. The pump in the tank is a nice neat unit and is quieter.
