Vin# Got me a little worried!

I was out working on the 72 GMC today when I happened to look at the vin# on the glovebox. Well I got curious and went to compare to the Vin# on the dash at windshield. Well to my surprise there wasn't any Vin# tag on the dash. I guess when I had the windshield replaced something happened or did it ever have one. I can't remember. Did the 72's come with the Vin# on the dash. Where all can I find my Vin#? Just the Glove Box? If it's missing is there anywhere I can order a new Vin# Tag? The Vin# on my glovebox is TCE142B513267 can someone tell me what this stands for. The last # is 67 is that suppose to be a 67. I know mine is a 72 maybe the Glovebox was replaced. This is the Vin# on my Registration. Don't know. Thanks for any help.

it is in the door jamb
you should allways check it when you purchase a vehicle

I checked it when I bought it. It's just been a long time so there for a minute my brain went on strike and I couldn't remember where the Vin# was located. Thanks for responding.

It's there. I had the door Jambs painted and never removed the tape. It's right there matching the Glove box. Thank you very much.

TCE142B513267

T = GMC
C = 2wd
E = V8
1 = 1/2 ton
4 = Pick-up
2 = 1972
B = Baltimore Assembly Plant
513267 = Serial #, started at 500001 so your truck was the 13,267th truck made at that plant, so it was built early in the year, maybe even Nov/Dec 1971.

:D

Thanks a lot. That's great info. I will put that in my records.

No prob, since you have your matching glovebox, you can also verify if your truck was originally a shortbed/longbed, stepside/fleetside by using the "model number" located on your glovebox. See post #2 in the link I posted. Fenderside is a stepside and wideside is a fleetside.

That's a great Thread. I saved all of the info. Thanks for pointing that out.

Now does the frame numbers match the vin. numbers on the cab/glovebox?

Re: Vin# Got me a little worried!

Even easier on short or long...just look at wheelbase next to vin on the spid...115 short...127 long...........
