1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck
1996: (Ok, pic is a lot newer, but pretend the flat black looks fresh and really cool)

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
Shaved. This one traveled down the interstate for 3 hours @ 80mph. Didn't want to lose it.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
Awesome, Craig's list score?

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
I have my connections ;)
I paid fair value for it, so it wasn't cheap, but it's exactly what I needed, in the ratio I wanted. The gears look excellent in it. There's lots of 71/72 3.08's out there (lots more auto trucks in those years and most of them got the 3.08) so 3.73's in those years are a little harder to come by, but with my 700R, that's what I needed. I've met a lot of members over the years and I got it from an old connection down in GA. |
Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
Not looking forward to this:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1388772325 I'll be starting on this very soon. I started the thread a little pre mature, but threads like this actually motivate me to do stuff and post pictures (same thing for the original build in 2006). The nice thing is that I can keep the truck a runner for quite a while before she has to come off the road for a while. I can do the motor and suspension swaps over weekends and try to keep her alive as long as possible. Even drove it to work today in 16* weather. Old girl fires right up. |
Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
So what am I actually doing?
I'm modeling my build after gringolocos "how to ruin a perfectly good C10": http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...8/ff770390.jpg and the truck below (finished product will hopefully be very similar to this): http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1384964103 Basically I don't want a "nice" truck anymore. I had WAY more fun in this truck when it was flat black. After 8 years of sitting outside 24-7 my driveway paint job doesn't exactly look all that great anymore anyway, and I'll never use metallic single stage ever again (rookie mistake, I know you paint guys are probably laughing). Any attempt to make the paint look prettier just screws it up more. What I plan to do: New AAW wiring harness (have it.) New Crate Engine with some goodies (have it.) Electric Jeep Fan (have it.) New dual Exhaust (current setup leaks, fits poorly, and will get smashed when the truck is lowered). New cover and new foam for seat (have it.) Dynamat and new carpet (have carpet.) Drop it 4/6 (kit is on the way.) New (used) 3.73 5 lug 71/72 (wider) rear axle (have it.) Convert front to 5 lug (already has discs, just needs rotors.) 20x8.5 front and 20x10 showwheels streeters in gray. Eliminate all rust (new 1968 bed needs some work!) and get the body as straight as I can get it. Replace pile of crap aftermarket front doors with original doors to truck (still have them, in good shape, just didn't have the skills/time to fix them at the time I did the truck the first go round). I also have 67 front fenders that came from cali and a near perfect hood I picked up last year. Paint the truck a flat blue with a flat white top. Shop truck theme to include something like this for a door logo with "Taylor's" (local town) above it. And maybe PARTS SALES SERVICE across the top of the bed with 864-555-1967 or 864-555-6772 for the phone # and truck "No.67" on the side of the cowl. http://ih2.redbubble.net/image.12593...0x550,navy.jpg Not sure if I want to do a very light "wear through" with black underneath or not. I have some panels I can test it out on. |
Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
From the previous build:
Truck was converted to V8 with 700R4 using Bowtie Overdrives TC lock up kit and TVmadeEZ kit. Has Power Disc Brakes from '71 GMC. Blazer tank under the bed with 88-98 Silverado fuel filler door. Vintage Air A/C w/ heavy duty 4 row radiator. I will be adding power steering as well (have all parts.) Crap that will be going on or back on the truck: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...1&d=1220759457 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1232487412 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1232487412 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1213291241 Original doors weren't too bad at all: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1235879354 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1235879354 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1235879366 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1235879630 |

Your plans will be a nice rebuild.

The biggest hurdle (seems like) of all was jumped this weekend. After 6 years of being 22 miles away... my fleetside bed is HOME!
The green stuff is mold/gunk from being under trees (my friends place was my only option at the time... he was the only one that had a house at that time  then I kinda forgot about it...) |
Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
This is gonna be a cool one. I'm sub'd.
|
Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
Love the build plans, I am in for this one!
|
Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
Somehow missed this. In.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
Don't get too excited guys... I have the parts now... time... not so much (Rob, I'm sure you know how that is! I still love looking at that tailgate I got from you!). But I will be working on it... as opposed to NOT working on it. At a MINIMUM it will be rewired and have the new crate motor in this year (2015). If I can get the drop done too that would be killer... it's all just sitting in a big pile...

Yeah, I think it was from New Mexico?

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Truck
Good looking truck now. Dig the new plans too. Read through your old build a while back so following along on this one too.
Totally understand the time issue. I don't get near as much it e out in the garage as I would like. |

Apparently I'm still really good at taking things apart...
I about popped a nut moving the bed up into position. The floor looks a million times better in the last pic than what it is. There isn't a single square inch usable for even a patch, its completely barrel rolled and rotten. |
