How tough to lower a 2500HD

Hey guys, I have an 02 Silverado 2500HD 2 wheel drive and was thinking of lowering it a little. It rides higher than most 4 wheel drive trucks I see and I don't know why. Was it a factory option or did someone add overload springs at one point, would like at least 4" out of it.
