Official max. gross trailer weight '77 C20 ?

Hi Guys,

Soon I'll have my truck checked by the official road department to get a Dutch license. During this overall check I have the opportunity to get some towing weight on my license papers (necessary over here). In the Netherlands it is pretty hard to get some decent numbers on your papers. There are tons of old trucks, but just a few with over 1500lbs of towing weight.

Thing is, we need to show official papers/documents (for example: owners manual) of what the vehicle is capable of based on brand, model, year, engine, transmission and rear axle. GTW or GCWR

They actually don't look at the hitch itself

Now I know that these overviews were distributed for the years before '77 and that '77 just had a overview per model, see below

Does anybody know if there is an overview by engine, axle, etc? Or any other information?

My truck is a 1977 C20 Camper Special with a 350cui, th400 and 4.11 rear axle.. Thing is a beauty and after a year of restoring as good as new. Including a new class III reciever hitch with a 8000lbs hitch ball.

Thanks in advance!

There is an overview that breaks it down by rear axle. Such a thing exists, because we use "launchability" up a 16% grade as a factor in determining the rating.

Let me see if I can find it somewhere.

Unfortunately the 1977 info packet does not contain any trailering info...

I was able to find this attachment for 1987. The format will be similar, but ratings are probably a bit different since '87 was the first year for TBI.

The GCW rating for your truck, using the attached, would be 13,500 lbs.

Hi Keith. Thanks for looking it up. Strange there is no information for '77. I'm affraid it is going to be a hard process to get some tow weight on my papers.

For comparison purposes, here is the '78 chart:

Thanks for searching Keith! Nice website also, never seen it before.

Hope I can get away with Suburban information. ;)

I hope so, too. I would recommend that you try to pursuade them that the powertrains are the same and the body style would not be significant (especially since the charts say "C20", rather than "C20906").

Indeed Keith. I'll have to convince them, but they are quite some nitpickers on this. That's why almost no square has trailering weight on their papers. We will succeed

Found this page on the website you shared. Special trailering information for '77

Strange thing is, they do not supply a 350cui in combination with 4.11's or any camper special information. Gross trailer weight is also entirely different from the Suburban rates.
