Well I guess I will throw up some pictures of my current project. Its a 1961 C10 short bed fleet side big back window with a 235 and 3 on the tree. I bought this project on ebay a couple months back and drove to Williams, AZ in my 1960 panel truck with my wife to pick it up. Towed it home to Phoenix about 2.5 hours away with the tow bar that was on the truck. This truck is super clean! Very little rust in a few spots.

Then once it was home I started to work on it. I got the truck running really well and took it for a drive and the clutch was slipping really bad. so I decided to pull the motor and tranny and reseal everything and put a new clutch in it... and while i had the motor pulled i figure i might as well paint the firewall and framerails. I decided I wanted to go with factory 1961 colors so I picked Neptune Green 703a and Bombay Ivory 701c. This truck was factory 721a Pure White but I like the two tone look better. I painted the firewall Bombay Ivory and the framerails black. Painted the engine Neptune Green. Resealed the engine, put a new water pump on it, rebuilt the carb, did a tune up, and got a chrome pushrod cover plate and chrome valve cover for it. I also modified the original road draft tube to make it work with a pcv so it doesn't puke so much oil over everything. Then I decided I would paint the interior so i took all the glass out and prepped and painted the inside of the cab bombay ivory and the dash Neptune green. Got new carpet and had a seat from a 96 chevy singlecab recovered for the truck.

The truck had 3 matching oem 15" wheels so I found a 4th and sandblasted them and painted them Neptune green and ordered some polished stainless steel caps for them and put 235/75/15 with a small whitewall. I got the truck thrown back together just in time for Dino's Pre Show Git Down in November. had a blast driving it to his party then to the Goodguys show the next day. I left the hood off so people could check out the stock six in the engine bay.

So that's what I have been working on the past few months and these past couple weeks I took the bed off the truck and took it completely apart and started straightening out the bedsides and getting ready to sandblast them. Took doors off and gutted them, took interior back out, took the glass back out of the cab so I could strip the cab and get ready for bodywork.

Nice truck! I like the neptune and ivory as well, good choice. They did a great job on the late model seat. I'm having mine recovered now. They are super comfy compared to the oe one

1958-1966 Truck Fleetside Tailgate, Ultimate hinge Trunnion (2 Piece Set) made of Stainless Steel and Delrin.
These are replacement hinge trunnion parts to upgrade your chevy fleetside truck.
These are perfect for the truck restorer!

These are Very quite while opening and closing the tailgate.
You have to reused your original Trunnion hinge plate/bracket as seen in the pictures. Just remove the bolt with lock washer, replace with these stainless steel hinge trunnions and bolt back on your truck.

I recommend power coating or chrome your Trunnion hinge plate before installing these back on it. To prevent further rusting.

Hey guys it has been quite a while since I have posted any updates on this truck! After the cab was stripped and the complete bed along with some miscellaneous other parts, I epoxy primed everything to get ready for body work. I ended up selling the 235 engine and 3 speed transmission and am going to go with a 5.3 ls engine from an 05 tahoe and a th400 tranny. I also got rid of the torsion bar front suspension and pancaked a 66 front crossmember 1". The truck will be on air front and rear. I mocked up the engine and transmission with the cab on then I pulled the cab and the rest of the body. I got a piece of 5" i.d. 1/4" wall pipe and cut it in half and C-notched the rear. It will gain another 2.5" doing this and I (hopefully) wont have to cut up the floor. That's about as far as I currently am... but I am finally getting more progress done

Re: 1961 shortbed fleetside BBW

Will that small Cnotch compromise the structure of the frame? Has anyone had bad consequences by doing this mod? I'm in the process of deciding if I should air ride my truck and cut a small c notch to lower it a bit more without compromising the rear bed.

amueller454 01-18-2015 11:17 PM

Re: 1961 shortbed fleetside BBW

I dont think that it will affect the strength of the frame much. not to worry about atleast. it is fully welded and 1/4" wall thick.
