Front End Questions
I just picked up a 77 GMC ...Cab, Bed, and Frame. There is VERY LITTLE rust on the cab...the interior is good, including seat...and the windshield is good. I intend to use the cab on Bobby's truck, as well as anything else that might interchange. I have a co-worker that can use the bed. The truck was hit in the front end...frame is bent...as well as the crossmember.
The questions I have are: Is there a way to check the spindles to see if they're ok? and if so...will they fit on Jason's 70 GMC. I'd like to put disc brakes on his truck. I might be spinnin my wheels here...but thought I'd ask. I believe I've read here that the power steering gear will work on Jason's too. I'd have to buy the hoses and a pump/bracket mount. Is there a way to check out the gear sector to make sure it wasnt cracked in the wreck? Again, I might be spinning my wheels, but I only gave $150 for the truck with title, and am getting $75 for the bed. As always....any advise or comments are greatly appreciated. Billy G |
Don't know anything about trucks later than '75, but as long as the tapered studs on the upper/lower ball joint match the spindle (plus the geometry), and the tie rod will adapt you should be able to use the spindle just fine. Visually you should be able to figure out if the geometry is correct, but you'll have to get the spindle out to determine if the taper is correct.

well if the a-arms arnt bent they will bolt up to the 70. if you want to use just the spindles then you will need to change the lower ball joints to the 73 and up style and the tie rods and center link from the 77 if they are not bent.
