72 gmc front crossmember swap?
 

I have a 72 gmc short bed 2wd, I have it stripped down to the bare frame with the front crossmember still attached. I have noticed a few tender spots in the crossmember and would like to replace it. the brackets on the top of the crossmember that attach it to the frame are thin and the bottom of the member itself has some weak spots. will the 73-87 crossmember fit? I am under the impression that it will. I have already purchased the upper and lower balljoints and inner and outer tie rod ends if I swap it out to an 73-87 will these parts fit? any help would be greatly appreciated

I think you can use the newer crossmember and use your old control arms and all the steering, the 73-87 use larger u-bolts on the lower control arm. If I'm wrong I'm sure some will chime in.......... Use the search above under 73-87 crossmember swap and you'll find a lot of info

Thank you. I thought they would work but wasn't sure. I'm hoping that I can save my cross member with a little patching but now the brackets on top of the cross member I have found they are pretty shacked. Is there any place I can buy these replacement or am I going to have to find some at a junkyard or make some. I know they come attached to the member but if I don't have to replace the member it'd be nice lol

I think lmc has them now not sure about anyone else.

I've looked and looked on lmc and can't find it for sale. If u can find it let me know I would greatly appreciate it

my bad JR they have them for the 73-87 trucks.
