Here is what it looks like now. |

Re: 1972 Jimmy
1 What gear ratio do you want just back to like stock rpm or are you going to wheel and want that low end torque
3 for hydro boost brakes go to the junk yard and pull one off a Chevy one ton truck or van |
Re: 1972 Jimmy
What trans do you have? I have 35s and 4.10 with the sm465 and it is just about perfect. If you plan on putting in a overdrive trans later or don't run on the highway a lot 4.56 would be good.

Re: 1972 Jimmy
I have a turbo 400...
I am gonna put ARB. OR ELOCKER ...not sure which set up yet And I am not sure on 4:56 or 4:88 And the hydro assist I want for steering |
Re: 1972 Jimmy
With the th400 go with 4.56. There is a little slippage and parasitic power loss in that trans and the extra gearing will help. If you don't plan on bigger tires that ought to be perfect. 4.88 you'd be screaming down the highway st 3400 rpm at 60. At 60 with 4.10 I'm right around 24-2600 rpm. But I have the granny low gear so I can use a higher gear for highway and still be good offroad.

Re: 1972 Jimmy
Do you plan on taller tires to fit the lift? I'd consider that before deciding on ratio. My rule of thumb with 35s is 410 with O/D and 4.56 w/o. A lot depends on engine torque, too, but with or without O/D and gears in the 4.10-4.56 range is what you want. Tell us about your engine

Re: 1972 Jimmy
Engine is 383 Stroker. Turbo 400 trans , Np205 transfer case. Electric fans
Going to run a semi float 14 bolt in the rear mainly because of the 6 lug. Dana 44 in the rear. 35 inch super swamper Tsl Sx. That's as big as I am gonna go on tire. Not to sure if I am going to go with ARB OR E LOCKER. Also I am going to buy hydro assist steering. |

Re: 1972 Jimmy
I can't help you with your questions as I know nothing about 4X4's, but I really like your truck. It looks to be a real nice survivor.
