307 vs 350

Hey guys so it's time for a new engine and I have the opurtunity to get a 307 that's been fully rebuilt with 416 305 go heads and an rv cam making 9.6 to 1 compression and around 270 hp. Or a can go with a new crate 350 like this one from summit http://m.summitracing.com/parts/nal-10067353/media which route do you think I should take?

Google "416 305 go heads" for a bunch of 'hits'.

Sorry ho heads not go heads. The 307 is also half the price of a crate motor

I feel that the 350 at twice the price would be a better buy! 307's aren't known for fire breathing performance or decent gas mileage.

I think you will be happier with the 350. Lots of options out there for good running motors. When it comes to a new engine, I never shop price. I shop best value for the buck. Also check with your local Chevy dealer. They can be pretty competitive on the GM crate engines.

In stock form the 307's were a bit of a turd, but built right, they can be a decent performing engine. Check out this build:

Now, I don't know how well the 416 heads would work on a 307. Unless you can hear this engine run, I would shy away from it even if it is half the cost of a 350 GM crate engine.

I had a 307 in my 68. What a turd. No more 307 or 305's for me.

crate motor 350s start out with about 230 hp and $1500 and go up. The 290 hp is about $2000-2200

I think you could find a 350 rebuild it yourself get more performance than what is in that crate engine and keep it under 1500 pricetag
