Bushings Cab, Core, Poly or Rubber?
 

I am getting ready to replace the bushings on the cab and core support , what is the preferred choice of material for my 78, and where do I order them from?

And the debate begins. I bought the rubber kit from LMC for my short bed. I have never run poly bushings but didn't want to chance them riding too rough or the possibility of squeaking. JMO. There are alot of guys who run poly and like them. It just didn't set well with me.

Thanks for the confirmation about rubber.
I think rubber also, but I am open for suggestions.
Poly on suspension parts, but maybe rubber on the cab.

I am in agreement.

Rubber for body mounts for same reasons.

I even wanted to stay rubber with my springs and stuff when I replaced them because the poly stuff I was taking out was so brittle and cracking, I didn't want to be bothered, but I ended up putting mostly poly stuff in those places. I kept rubber for cab, and core, motor, and trans.

I ended up buying MOOG bushings for my control arms and leaf springs/hangers.

If you want a smoother ride go rubber,ploy is stiffer and might squeak with enough body flex.

I used poly bushings for the cab. Have had them on for 3-4 years now with no squeak that I can hear.

on mine id use rubber the polys are not as quiet

I bought (energy suspension)polyurethane body mounts back in the early 90's when they first came out for my truck; after cab changes,rad support changes over the years they still look the same today as when I put them in;Squeeks were never an issue always installed with anti-seize compound on all steel parts. Ended up buying them for everything that was rubber on truck never had to replace any of them again.

Unless you need to use your cab as a frame stiffener go rubber. One of my favorite things about old Chevy trucks is how good they ride.

poly every where.....if you're worried about the ride, you need a newer truck!

The poly is what I suggest, and when installed with the supplied lubricant, they will be quiet. We sell Prothane and their black color mounts have a hint of graphite in them, which also helps against squeaking. I have yet to have a customer come back and say they are noisy.

I have rex poly under my body. It rode so rough before with bad rubbers i haven't noticed a difference. With poly you don't have to worry about them later on in life which is nice

I like rubber, poly did not work for me under load, the bushings were plastic and flowed. This was several years ago, maybe they are better now. I use rubber or aluminum only now. For highly stressed core support I only use rubber to help protect the radiator from stress/cracks.

ifin you want to never deal with them again, go poly. i got it all over my crew, leafs swaybar, body, etc. poly made my susp. waaay better, & i dont know what people are saying about squeaks & lousy ride, when i installed them, i greased them liberally with lithium, have never heard a sound out of them.
ride? exactly the same, (mind you, you dont have any ride with swampers anyways!), in fact the truck feels more "screwed down" then with rubber.
and yeah, i installed the supossedly noisier red bushings, hey you haft to color coordinate

i have all poly up front, feels better than rubber. its not "harsh" or "stiff" way less floppy than rubber and they move freely. anyone else have a manual trans? my Z-bar and all clutch linkage is well greased but when i depress the clutch, it lifts the cab up. my bushings are in good shape and not loose. i plan on switching to poly bushings on those too. everything but the leaf eyes. those need rubber
