Anyway to restore firewall AC box?
I have a good non cracked firewall box but is a bit faded. For those who don't know I am completely rebuilding this truck and is getting paint right now. I don't want to put this faded box back on the way it is but don't want to just throw any paint on it and make it look like crap. Is there anybody that has restored there old box before putting it back on. Trying to keep away from buying a new aftermarket one. Just didn't know if there was any certain kind of paint or something I could put on it to give it a nice fresh look again.

Or maybe I will look into an A/C delete cover until I find a nice one. Any ideas who makes a good delte kit.

Re: Anyway to restore firewall AC box?
What are you guys using to seal the box off to the firewall. Something like a 3M black caulking or some type of adhesive tape? I want something that is going to leave a clean look.
I also found this site after digging through some old threads here for the delete kit. Anybody use this and have pics they can post? Was the fit good? A little pricey I think for this but if thats what it takes. Haven't come across any other vendors yet. http://acdelete.com/pages/73-90_Truck.htm I know there are a few different questions here but they all pertain to the same thing pretty much. |
Re: Anyway to restore firewall AC box?
After you get it clean and paint free, a few light coats of matt clear should give it the new look you are after. 3M strip caulk would work to seal it to the firewall. If you don't want to use the spray undercoat as factory, I would suggest a thin bead of black silicone sealer across the top where it seals to the firewall. Chip.

Re: Anyway to restore firewall AC box?
I spray painted mine flat black and used Murray 59010. Its made just to put these boxes back and its a roll. Like 14 bucks

Re: Anyway to restore firewall AC box?
I've had good results from a thorough scrubbing with SOS pads - that usually scuffs off the faded outer layer and brings back a lot of the dark fiberglass color.

I used a scuff pad and them sprayed flat krylon(for plastic) on it
