Is this dually Factory or "homemade"?
 

I ran across this truck on CL a while ago.
It was advertised as a 1988.

Is it a cab/chassis with a regular bed?

Or is it dual wheels on a regular truck?

This is the only pic, I have never seen it in person.

I have a 1984 4wd regular cab dually cab and chassis with a commercial flatbed on it.
I don't like the flatbed, it is too big and wide and I'd like to shorten the frame and put an 8' bed on it.

Homemade, or a mismatch of parts. The factory dually pickup will have the large add on fenders on it.

Keep in mind the dually pickups have a wider rear track. The cab chassis dual rear axle would be tucked closer inside the box side.

Agreed. Could have been a SRW (single rear wheel) 1-ton that had a cab & chassis (tow truck/flatbed) rear housing swap.

how can you not? dual wheels that are as wide as a srw truck. unless he welded two frames together cause dual wheels on a srw truck will hit the frame. then its still a half c&c truck.

I can't find the thread right now,but isn't a cab & chassis 4" longer than a regular truck? Cab/box combo? I'm with SCOTI on this one,started as a CrewcabSRW that had a dually rear put under it.

I will have to measure the spring hangers for sure,but my 86 K25 was a converted dually when I got it.All the PO did was put longer studs on & he made it into a dually & the tires didn't hit the frame..

and like i said the inside tire would hit the frame on srw truck. with this truck im sure they had to widen the tubs in the bed.

Just went out to shop & measured my 86,the spring hangers on same width as my other 3/4ton trucks.The 86 was a converted dually when I got it & the tires didn't come close to the frame.It has a deck on it,so tubs are not an issue.

Single Cab, Cab and Chassis would be longer than a pickup dually (135.5 vs 131.5) but a 4 door cab and chassis and a 4 door pickup (with or without box) have the same wheelbase (164.5).

I think SCOTI is talking rearend width,... not chassis wheelbase.

You can't bolt dually wheels onto a regular SRW axle, so it's width would not matter anyway.
Actual axle housing length is not really the issue, it is from one wheel mounting surface to the other that matters.

That's the way this 86 was when I got it,looks like the PO put longer studs in,then bolted dually wheels to it.I don't have any pictures because I singled it out.Duals don't work very good in mud or snow.Its a14 bolt full floater under a 3/4 ton truck.I just changed to shorter studs & bolted some wagon wheels on.

My point was its just as possible it was a srw truck that had a rear axle swap..

srw axle with duals would hit frame the frame isnt as wide on cc in the back

I think you mean they would hit the leaf springs.
There is no way they would hit the frame first

Exactly. Seems more than 1 guy has swapped a C&C axle under a dually as an alternative to widening the dually fenders when doing the 10-lug big wheel swap.

in the truck i posted, the wheel tubs are a little wider. is it possible that i private company did this? i would love to built a narrow axle "big dooley"

the leafs are no wider than the frame idk what you mean im saying the inside tire is gonna rub metal if you try it on a regular frame width truck. even without a bed.
