60-66 outside of frame rear shock relocation
Anyone done it yet on the 60-66 crowd besides Fizzle Fry?
Curious if anyone knows about running 'close to stock' height and doing this... and also shock lengths etc. (I can only imagine how this will help everyone whether your static dropped or not.... greatly increase the amount of sway reduction). My truck is stock for now.... currently going under an LS swap... suspension/drop/upgrades are next year... but my upper shock mount seems to be busted to hell already and is in need of replacing... might as well tackle a permanent solution now and even when I drop it. No Limit Engineering sells a kit for outboard, rear mounted shocks. Additionally the '60-'62 trucks with the trailing arm suspension had outboard rear mounted shocks. Although they were angled rearward instead of vertical.

I have air bags I plan to install in the rear of my `63 C10 and I was looking at the U-bolt / shock brackets and thinking I could outboard mount the shocks if I swapped those brackets L for R.
Looks like you guys have been there already and all it takes is some clearancing on the end of the trailing arm and put an upper stud on the frame rail. ...unless I'm misunderstanding it. |

I believe that is pretty much it. I believe Frizzle Fry used front shocks in the rear when he did his.

I don't know for sure if they will work, but you might take a look at a set of lower shock brackets from a '60-'62. It might be just as easy to drill the extra hole in your existing ones.

I just did the relocation, because I needed the room for the exhaust and I moved the panhard bar as well. It all worked out great.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Powerslave's is massively re-engineered. Ratioed bellcranks for the shocks? Mount the bags way forward on the arms?

In 60-62 they had the shocks on the outside of the frame.
In 63-66 the angled them inward and mounted them to a crossmember. I know the guys lowering their trucks don't like the 63-66 shock location because the angle gets exaggerated as you lower the truck. But the engineers had a reason for moving them from the 60-62 location to the 63-66 location. So if riding stock height, what's the advantages of the 63-66 rear shocks location? |

Guessing it reduces side to side swap, as the point at which the truck can pivot (shock locations) is moved towards the tires. Kind of like trying to balance a box in the air while you're moving with both hands under it near the center, and then moving your hands closer to the ends. Takes less effort to keep it flat/stable.
