sounds like they sold him the wrong crate engine, should have sold him the 2pc rear main seal version, cant say i have ever seen a 5.7 in a 60 series truck since the one piece rear seal was introduced, maybe some one with more knowledge than me will chime in.

Re: 1966 C-60 flywheel help!!!!!

You have a point there! Chevy never made a 1 piece rear main until 1987! It's not so much he got sold the wrong motor. Try finding one with the warranty and price of an air cleaner to oil pan motor as the GM Performance 350 HO! Granted if it was in any of my light duty trucks or any car the transformation would be no problem! We are talkin about a heavy machine here! He was looking at cost to build or buy on that 327 and jumped the gun thinking that all 350s were the same and I didn't think that finding a flywheel for the rig would be that difficult!! Hell I've got a "new" 1 piece rear main in my DD 72 K-20! :banghead: So I need all the heavy truck guroos to chime in who knows of a top kick with a 350 92 and up what the part number is for a 16 inch flywheel!?

And bama you are right no big truck has a 5.7 in the one piece version....maybe our old iron is stronger?

Re: 1966 C-60 flywheel help!!!!!

my c 60 school bus has a 87 or newer motor in it.... however it was installed by the p.o., so I know nothing about it....
that said it came with 2 extra fly wheels along with the one that is currently in it.
one was original to the bus, and he said I would have to keep/use it if I wanted to change back to the older motor...

so, I guess that the point of this post is that the newer motor can be used, I am just not sure what part is needed... so don't give up yet!

Thanks for the kind words! I was going to use a 13 inch off of a 1 ton but the owner wants to work it after it's restored! So I want him to be happy! Here's what it looks like right now

2 Attachment(s)
that might have been what my p.o. used...[-mine is a short bus that got converted to a rv-] it wouldn't have to work as hard as a farm truck!

we need more info here:

why does it have to have a 16"?

What is the crank pilot size?

Re: 1966 C-60 flywheel help!!!!!

I might be able to get some info later this spring, when I pull the motor out of the bus....
my 66 60 series 327 also has the big belhousing/hydraulic clutch, it was rated for a lot of weight, they hauled cattle with it... I don't have a pic of it though...
