Any benefits with vintage air over factory air?
Just want to see what everyone has to say about this. Is there any real benefits from taking out all the factory air stuff and replacing with the vintage air system?

Re: Any benefits with vintage air over factory air?
unless you have a motor that prohibits you from using the factory stuff and you already have air conditioning, I do not see any benefits of spending a couple of thousand on another kit

Re: Any benefits with vintage air over factory air?
The way I see it is with vintage air
1. The system is designed for todays freon 2. The whole system fits under the dash leaving a clean firewall. 3. It uses a sandon compressor which has less drag on the motor. 4. VA has brackets for any configuration to mount the compressor. 5. Better fan air volume out the vents. 6. The latest version has electric controls for blend and fresh air doors. No cables or vacuum lines. 7. $1500 for a complete system seems to be a decent price considering they have a kit specifically designed for a 73-87 C10. |
Re: Any benefits with vintage air over factory air?
I am just curious more than anything right now. Putting this truck back together with just a 355 right now but may go with a LS style down the road. My thoughts are/were if I go the LS route then I had the thought of cleaning up the firewall a little bit and get rid of all the AC stuff on the firewall side. Just a thought at this time but wanted to see what you guys had to say.

Re: Any benefits with vintage air over factory air?
I'd go with a new system from VA. If your system has been open and non functioning, it needs repair parts ($$$), spend the money on a new system designed for today's freon. I have several friends running VA and systems from Old Air in street rods and full size pickups, you could hang meat in the cabs, plenty of COLD air.

But,........I honestly believe the aftermarket choice is a better one for both price and function. The A/C in our trucks is 30 year old technology, the aftermarket stuff is way more up to date. |
