Pi$$ed off on those rocker. Please help!
 

This is my second attempt at hanging my inner rocker panel and outer rocker panel. The first I completely botched and Im moving much slower this time, however I still dont think I have it right.
In the pic below I tacked the inner rocker in. This is when the door is fully closed. As you can see the door doesnt sit on the lip. Is it supposed to?
I had thought it did on my first attempt however the A pillar didnt sit flush on the inner rocker at all, so I ripped it out
So on my second attempt I trimmed the inner rocker a bit more so now the A pillar sits flush but as you can see in the pic the door doesnt sit on the inner lip
Did I fug this up again? This is quite frustrating
Someone lead me to the promise land!

Here is my .02 & 1/2 cents YOU ASKED LOL ;)
#1 align the door to fit the top and back half of the cab make sure it has a good gap all around the top of the door and rear cab make sure the body line is lined up
#2 install the rockers to fit the door
done it many times , that pic is really of no use because you don't do the alignment in there you align the gaps and body lines on the outside ,,

The door I have aligned on right now. My main concern is when the door is shut. Does it fit on the inner rocker lip? I don't have the outer Rocker panel on. I'm just concerned that the inner rocker is too far in and when I put the outer on it won't fit

You got to remember...there is the weatherstripping that fits to the outer rocker lip which the door rests against. The outer rocker will overlap the inner rocker, which will give you more of a lip to work with. Trevor

Yep 10-4 on the weatherstripping. I just need to know if when you shut the door, does the bottom of the door go further in on the inner rocker lip? From the pic the door is closed and the bottom of the door sits flush with the inner rocker, its not in on the inner rocker lip. That's the question.
Does that make sense?

Mock up your outter rocker.You'll see where the lip on the outter rocker doesn't fit in as far as the "lip" on the inner.It will be closer to the door.That is where the weatherstrip attaches and the door hits it.

You have to sort of pre fit everything with clamps or even screws to make sure its lined up before you weld it in place ,
I always fit my rocker with the door on shut and lined up get the gap between the bottom of the door and rocker correct get the rocker nice and even with the front and rear of the door that way when you put your fender on it will match up and also match your cab corner up to the rocker , its just getting it to fit , it is aggravating sometimes ,

The inner rockers sits flush against the cab supports under the floor. Are yours currently gone from rust?

Yep, I had to replace both front and rear cab floor support. Currently the inner rocker is sitting flush all the way against the cab floor supports. It just seems when I "mock fit" this outer rocker doesnt sit on the lip that much. I can fit it where the channel is 1/2 or 3/8 tight against the inner, but for whatever reason the door is hitting on the outer rocker.

Usually by the time the outer rocker is fit to match the doors... There's only about a half to 3/4 of an inch between the lip of the outer (where weather strip goes) and top corner edge of inner. (Just fit the tip of your finger down in it) The outers usually don't sit that far on the top surface of the inner rockers. Have to drill holes for spot welds fairly close to lip for weather stripping.

OK guys I snapped some pics. Things arent looking well. What is the distance on the floor board from inner rocker to inner rocker?
I'm thinking that I took out too much of this replacement piece and my inner rocker is in too far. I think I took out a 1/4 too much.
However with the 1/4 gone the inner rocker sits nice and flat on the cab floor supports and it allows me to have the A pillar sit nice and flush on the inner rocker.
With the inner rocker and the 1/4 extra there is gap between the inner rocker panel and the cab floor supports. Plus the A pillar is angled on the inner rocker. So it doesnt sit right.
Having said all this, look at the pic of the fender and door. This is my door all the way out adjusted and there is a huge gap between the two.

You can see in these pics that the door is rubbing on the rocker panel, and also with the 1/4 removed the inner is sitting nice and flush against the cab floor supports.

Can anyone measure the distance from inner rocker lip to inner rocker lip?

I am not an expert but I did mine over the summer. I will try and get that measurement tonight for you. I know you have probably checked but is the door aligned properly? On mine I didnt have to remove the inner rocker so it wasnt too hard to realign. But I did have to tweak it a little to reconect to the inner rocker. I know its easy to say, but walk away have a beer and regroup. The last thing you want to do is force it. That was the advice someone gave me and worked. Here are some of my picts. Maybe they will help.

Yes if you could measure from the inner lip of the inner rocker (the side where its flush to the floorboard to the other side, that would be much appreciative. Whats strange is my first attempt everything fit fine, but the door kept hitting the outer rocker, which made me think measurements were off.
Now with the inner sitting flush on cab floor supports and the a pillar sitting where it needs to be the damn fender isnt aligning up.

Is it a new fender? I know someone had to cut and message their new fender to install correctly. Did you do anything to the door since you removed the inner and outer rocker? I had to Message the bottom of my door after welding in patch pieces and holes. Now it’s fine.

Its a GM door and fender. Bought it from a guy on the boards.
They arent a repop.

don't worry about the fender , but just for the sake of it your radiator support bushings may need replaced if the radiator support is low in the front it will make the fender gap big at the top but you can shim it up if needed , but don't worry about that its like putting the cart in front of the horse just make your door fit the solid parts of the cab make the rocker fit the door and THEN make the fender fit the door ,,,

Mine measured 65 inch's if that helps.
